S, Underhill to convey their guests on alittle pleasure excursion up the East river as far as Randall's Ialand, to visit the public tnsti- tutions, The bo: ing arrived to embark, the com- pany, after returning thanks to the school oMcers and teachers, took their departure at ten o'clock, and marched to the boat at the foot of Chariton street, and at eleven o'clock were on their way to Randail’s Island. Not a | ‘breath of air was stirring, and the heat was so intense that all hands were compelled to take refuge under the awnings to protect themselves from the flerce rays of the sun. The party, however, | contrived to make theinselves as comfortabié as possible, and by copious draughts of cool lager, and refreshments of a more solid kind, managed to resist the attacks of Old Sol. The band’ took thelr position on the bow of the boat, und poured ont a continnous stream of music, which attracted the attention of the dwellers on either mde of the river, who crowded its banks, and, by waving of handker-hiefs and other demonstrations, greeted the pleasur’ seckers in the mort hearty and cor- dial manner, After a sail of about am hour and a half, arrived at her destination, and as she toucued the dock three hearty cheers went up from the throats of nine hundred neatly dresied little fellows, who were ranged in military order along the bank of the river. Their cheers were . returned with ‘interest by the firemen and thelr friends on board, after which Mr. William H. Stevens, the Warden of the Island, welcomed the party and conducted them on shore. The boys were all formed in line, and, headed by* their drum corps, passed in review and saluted the firemen in true military style. After visiting the various inst and wit- neasing the exercimes of the children of the various de- partments, the party repaired ta the boat, and after par- taking of ended for New York, rounded thi ry mi about half: past four o'cloc! and proceeded up a far as Bull's ferry, where the boat landed and the yan agcepted an invitation from Messrs, Everett & icLaughlin to take some refreehmenis.
