TROUBLES IN THE KITCHEN CABINET. Interesting Developments and Row in the Kitchen at Washington. Corwin, the Wagon Boy, and Raymond, the Little Villain, Seeking Information. Old Blair Pays a Visit to Gen. lan, and Promises Him an Important Command if He Will Not Allow His Name to be Used at Chicago. Chevalier Forney te Leave Europe in Disgust. HIS ARRANGEMENTS WITH SEWARD. The Sage of Auburn Looking Four Years Ahead. The Republican Ship Leaky and the Geaders Deseorting, &e.. &., oa, Oar Washington Correspondence. Wasiincrox, August 3, 1864. The Kitchon Cabinet at Washington are sorely trouble Everything goos by sixes and sevens The cooks are eoustantly spoiling the broth, Tho dishmalds loave the @rockery in a greasy and sticky condition, ‘ibe old ‘Washerwomen are continually hanging out tho dirty linen falf cleaned. The boilers are leaky, and the kitchen is Constantly in bot water, Uld Blair smuts bis own face ‘while blacking Old Abe’s boots. Forney leaves his bro. en bottles lying around loose, cutting other people's feet and hands, Young Blair bas smashed nearly all the rockery iu bis dispute with Chase, The littie Blairs are running around in everybody’s way aud thrusting their-noses into everything. Thurlow Weed looks in and Bays, “Lack!” ond **Aiack-a-dayj” and starts back to Al- Dany to wie a letior. Old Abe is so perplexed that he ©an thiok of nothing but to order Hay to denounce #omo of his appointees. O!d Blair, in cespair over the mud- @le, starts oil on a tour to empiey new help. Thus matters 0 on from bad to worse. Old biair is constantly wonder. fog Why be cannot maxe the kitchen arrangements work fs harmoniously as under Jackson, and why the Blair family are not as potent now as then. Old Abe, he says, ‘$s as lank and lean as;Jackson; but his legs won’t work ‘well in the race, Ho is constantly getting siuck io tho mud, keeping old Blair oocupied in cleaning aud blacking ‘dis boots. With this muddle, which some of Blair’s followers and worshippers of Old Abe may consider a littie over- wrought, but which the fuots that Ihave will fully sus- $ain, there is a decided muss uli around, and affairs, not ‘Only in the Kitchen Cabinet, but generally, look gloomy @vough. What is to be dove? is the great problem wirich tho cooks, washerwomen, disimaids, bootvlacks, bottie- oldars, whitewusbers, and men of all work, are just now Brying to decide, Tom Corwin, who has witnessed fail maonor of muddies in Moxico, bocame alarm:d and Game on to Washington a few days since to see what wus the matter. He applied to Soward, at the State Deput Mont, for information, Seward could not fully explain the matter. He had seen so much of the muss that bis ‘Drain was a litle bewildered, asd be could not explata. {wu bis dilemma he proposed to Corwin to take a ride @round among the fortitications, in bopes that the fresh air ‘would revive bim so that he could explain it, The ride was taken; but to Corwin’s dismay Seward tried to avoid @li allusion to the kitchen troubles, But Corwia, deter- ined not to be dluited off in that way, flatly asks ward—‘What is tho matter with Liocola? Why fs be s0 Ditterly opposed by the mea of hi own party?’ “Ab,” respouds Seward, “there does seom to be a great deal of disgatisfagtion among tho people, gud perhaps tnore opposition to him as a caudidate, than Chore would be if some otuer person ta the party had een nominated; but,” says he, giving Corwla a hunco with his erbow, u mast not mind that; the army ‘vote this year, aud we can probably mauage to save Bim with their vote, even if a few in the party do vote M@grinst hin at home.” This soomed to satisfy the Minis tor from Mexico, who, on his return from the ride, was @3 bright avd hopefal as a morning lark, He declares hat thore is vo doubt of Lincolu’s sucecss, and relates the above story as his evidence and proof of his position. But it will be een, as progress a little further, that this was only a ruge ou the part of Seward to biind Tom Corwin, No sooner had the latter got out of the way than Ray- mond rushes into Washington, pulling and blowing as Phough he had only just got himself out of his dilemma Yn the elbows of the Mincio, or bad not ceased rusning from Solferino. Without stopping to shake the dust ‘off from his clothes, he rushos to the headquarters of the Kitchen (abinct to ascertain where all the dirty water eomes from. He has had his committee together two or threo time: to fix up the machiaery of the campaign, ropaired the broxea whcels aud olled the trunn.ons with rocnbacks; but 25 soon as everything was arranged in unning order be waa flootied with dirty water (rom the Kitchen, and all bie plans and work epolled. Being de- Gidedly out of humor, he pitches ia generally, declaring Ghat this has got to be stopped or his help will Jeave him, Ho suggests waking up Weiles, and placiag him on board Of one of the Mouitorsand sending him to sea; also the Fomoval of Stanton, Halleck, or somebody else, and fonibilating the rebel raiders in the Chenandosh alley mstanter, or some other desperate ‘cod, and to revise matters geverally, With e!! lus pitorts Raymond was not able to get matters siraightosed out, Old Blair bad a few days previously placed Mont- gomery Blair in charge of Old Abe's boots and started off Yor New York to see General McC ollan, to ascertain what ‘gould be dono in that quarter; and as this Kitcben Cabt- met and all tho arrangements aro managed by the Blair family—Lincoln, in fact, even, by them—no persou would take the responsibility todo anything in the absence of Biair sevior. [ will leayo them for a few moments, to follow the latter {a bia trip to New York. You have already advised your readers that Frank Biair, scnicr, had been in New York; but mothing bas trauspired as yet as to his mission. That secrot I now have It appears that his mission was for the parposo of seeing General McClellan, and tue report that ho brings b Just what be desired, Old Blair fovnd, on bis arrival in your City, thot Movleilan and wife were stopping with a friend on Throgs’s , in Westchester county, He iramedi- ately peated off to ese him, bet on bis arrival there finds Mrs, MeCiollau, who informs bim that the General wes in the olty that day, After ascertaining where he could get trace of him ho retraces his steps, and succeeds in ob- Raining an interview with “Little Mac,” at two P. M., in fome private office down town, After exchang- Jog the eval compliments of the day, old Biair proceeds (to bneivest, and informs General MecClellan ‘that his services are needed in the fleld, and that if he will address a note to oither the President or himself, stating that he bas po political as. Pirations, and that he will nol allow his name lo be weed at he Chicago Convention, he ((he President) wiil give him CMeClellan) an important command at once.’ This may Mot have been the precise wording of ir atements in every particular; but it is the precise substance and Purport of his statement, Genera! McClellan's reply was dost soch as an indignant mon of bis ability would give to such a proposition, As @ matter of opurse he repudia- tod making ony bargai refused to write any such otter; but it is said that he intimated that be, aaa mill- Sary officer, was under the orders of the President, and Je tho Iattcr ordered him to take the fleid he would Dave to or resign, Thus Blair was compelled So return to Washington with a big flea in his ear, and ag Dadly nonpiossed a8 Montgomery Biair was, a few weeks G@ince, when be wrote @ letter to General Grant asking Dim to pledge himself not to allow bis name to be used Ds 4 Prosidential candidate againet Old Abe, when that officer nope that be was not a politician, but a military possee bape had nothing to do with politics, and would ‘The pnrey yn this fe that Blair returoed in a de. aldedly bed stato of mind. He declares that It won't do te give MaCiailen © commana gnices he agrese not to NEW YORK HERALD, THURSDAY, AUGUST 4, 1864, allow bis name to be used; for that will be equivalent to the administration taking everything back that they have dove against him and acknowledging to the world that they were all wrong in removing him and treating him as they have, which will be equivalent to giving “Little Mac” ove-haif of the republican vote ia November. This, of course, won't do. All say that even if McClelian should agree to it he could not expect anything but tem times worse treatment than he has ever had before just as soon as the election ‘gover, or perhaps immediately upon the Chicago Con- vVention nominating their candidate, The interests of the country, w say nothing of his own, make the acceptance of apy such proposition a@ Blair’s abeurd, preposterous, and,I might say, criminal, None but an old, worn out Political back like Blair could hi possibly made apy such proposition, In the meantime the troubles in tho Kiichen Cabinet are on the iacrease, New perplex- ing eubjects are constantly turoing up. Forney aod Seward are both uveasy, and, seeing the drift of aifuirs, have arranged that Foraey shall let some one else take charge of the boitles for the campaign, and he go abroad. Accordingly fursy Fornoy is to leave soon for Europe The oxpenses of his trip are to be paid out of the secret service fund of the Department of State, thia having beon arranged by Seward, The fact of the matter is, Lincoln, Seward and their colleagues behind the scenes all have great Goubts in regard to the success of their party io November. In fact they are convinced that defeat is not an improbable thing. Secretary Seward is shaping, bis course accordingly. He still aspires to and lives in hopes of the Presidency, and has an idea that he can accomplish it four years hence, and in that view may pot worry himself much about this campaiga, or whether his ruse to Corwin proves true or faise, But Forney feeling that the defeat is probable, goes to Europe to avoid taking part in what he fears will be an unsuccessful campaign He will remain until after the election is over, and if Lincoln is defeated will say if he had been in the country it would not havo happened, aud thus shirk all rospousibility. The truth of the matter is, everything looks very much as though the whole pack of republican manugers desire Old Abo’s defeat, excopt the Blairs, who are running him, He is the Blair family idol just now. Events which are transpiring Nere look very much as though even Cameron, who labored so hard to name Live In first iv the Baltimore Convention, wag about giv. ing up the contest, and that the leaders in the Weat are fast folding their arms tn diegust, The above facts of tho working of matters bebind the scenes you may fully rely upon, Tho visit of old Blair and his interview with McClellan T have upon af good authority as though Mr. Blair had written them out or informed me in person, ‘That of Forney going to Europe, and bis arrangement with Seward, ia from a person high im the republican party, and intimate with both, and can be rolied upon in all its aetails, I might add other facts; but these are enough for to-day, to give the readers of the HuraLp some idea of the present condition of the Kitchen Cabinet. Old Blair is agtin back at work trying to make Uld Abe's bo ts shize; but he appears very sour and uneasy. No wonder that Yorney wants to leave the country, ‘The sight of tho kitchen arrangements is sickening even to such old hands iu dirty water as Forney. I shall pro- bably be able to furnish another chapter in a fow days, M’CLELLAN AND THE PEOPLE. Meeting of tho Central Exccutive Com- mittee, i A meeting of the MoCiellan Executive Committee was held last evening at the corner of Broadway and Kighth strect, to complete their arrangements for tue groat mass meeting to be held at Union square on the 10th inst. Mr. Hiram Ketcham, Jr., presided, William D. Murphy and A. V. VY. Dodge, of Albany, being present, Dr. Stevens introduced them to the mect- ing, and they were ifvited to take seats upon the platform. Loud calls being mado for “Murphy,” tuat geutleman briefly addressed the meeting. Me said he was there by necident, although he had the ploasure of visiting Moclel- Jan clubs on various other occasions, Tye MoClelian clubs of Albany, although not so formidab‘e “ta numbors os those of New York, were nevertheless as warmly da ‘voted to his (Mc'le!lon’s) interests. There is bo one ques. tion upon which the people of Albany are so thoroughly united upon as (hatof making McClellan President of the United States.
