Mr. Peterson is originally ‘Trom Grand Rapids, State of Michigan, but was a resident @f Texas when the rebellion first commenced. He ‘was present, howevé?, in no battle, and considers it a ‘Streak of good luck that he was never compelled to fre one bullet against the army and flag of his country. From the time that Mr. Peterson firet entered the rebel camp of the Thirteenth Texas infantry, ‘m which reciment he served during his expe- Fence in the rebel army, the rebels were short ef clothing, ffee and other necessary articles that had to be brought from abroad. The nows of General Banks’ victory over the rebels in Western Louisiana, brought by the Daniel Webster this morning, bas brightened every Joyal face on this island. There are people on the Webster, however, who persist that Genera] Banks has met with a defeat.
