The lads were both drowned, and it wos claimed at the time that the occurrence was the result of criminal carelessness on the part of the pilot of the steamboat. Neither of the bodies could be recovered, however, until within tho past few days, when the re- mains of Roche were found floating in Gowanus bay. Coroner Naumann was notitied to hoid au inquest, and ye:- terday was set apart for a thorough investigation of the melancholy affair. A number of witnesses wore examin- ed, aud the evidence was quite conclusive as to the guilt of those in charge of the Continenta). The jury, after due | deliberation, rendered a veraict of ‘Death by drowning, and the jury believe that the parties in charge of the steambvat are guilty of culpable negligence, and are of opivion that with sufficient care the accident might have been avoided.” Data rrom Burye.—A woman named Anne Jones died at Belley ue Hospital yesterday from the effocts of injuries accidentally received by her clothes catching fire, at 230 Mott street, on the 26th ultimo, tified to hold an inqueat.
