Henry Ward Beocher, have beon in a fover of excitement in consequence of the contemplated departure of that dis- “tinguished gentleman on a four months European trip. Mr. Beecher preached both morning and evening on Sunday last to an immense multitude, the evoning discourse being an interesting review of history of the Plymouth church during tho six- teen yoars of bis pastorate, He vindicated the course he had taken upon the great public questions of the time, and stated that by far the largeat number of sermons which he preached were aimed directly for the conversion of men to Christ.
