Brigadier Gonoral Edmund Kirby, First United States . artillery, died last evening at tho residence of General Ricketts of the wound received at Chancellorsville. When General Ricketts was taken prisoner, and the first lieutenant killed, Lieutenant Kirby continued to command this battery until the battle in which he was mortally wounded. General Schofield Assumes Command in Misiouri—Rigorous Policy Towards Guerillas Needed—An Editor and Con- gressman Attacked —General Herron, dc. Major General John M. Schotield arrived here on the 274, and ca the 24th assamed command of this department by order of the Presifent. General Curtis took his leave of the army in a brief but stirring farewell address, in which he invoked a continuanee of the same admirab!e discipline which enabled him to retire from command without sec- ing his administration tarnished by a single defeat.
