There was some activity in the coal stocks. Delaware and Hudson sold at 150, Pennsylvania Coal at 139, and American at 70. Cumberland, however, was an exception, and fell to 2634. When the call reached the railway shares there was some disposition shown to press stocks for sale, and prices were generally lower than last evening. At the close, however, there appeared to be a slight disposition shown to buy at the decline, and prices were 14 a 4 better than on the printed list. At the one P. M. call in the public board the market was dull; but prices were generally 4 a 4 better than in the morning. At the second board prices were generally better, though the volume of business was small. There was a sharp de- mand for Erie, Pittsburg, Toledo and Rock Island. Governments were steady ata fractional decline from the morning quotations, At the four o’clock public board the market was irregular; but prices were, in most instances, higher than at the second board. If the present dulness continues for two weeks lenders will find it difi- cult to lend at 5 per cent. It is a curious fact that while the money market has been stringent on first class securi- ties the rates on A No.l paper have not been above 5 per cent. A lot of $100,000 60 day paper was passed to- day at 4% per cent, and single names, well known, at 5 a 5% per cent.
