Captain Hall te Return to the Arctic Re- giome—He Meeting at the Chamber of Commerce—Meeting of the Koyal Geo- graphical Society in London—Captain Halli Badorsed by Them—The Contrust, &e., de, Yeatorday afternoon an adjourned meeting of the Chain- ‘vor of Commerce was to have been held, to listen to Cop tain C.F. Holl, the American Arctic explorer, who was t» have shown to our commercial public that aside, from sctontific diseoverios, new fields of wealth eould be opeued which would bring in large sums to the country. One o'clock caine—the hour of weeting—and there were ‘preseat Mr. Heary Grinnoll, Mr. Stevens, Captain “C. F, Hall, Captain W. Parker Saow, an English Aro- “tie navigator; Mr. H. W. Docge, tate Orst mate of Dr Hayc# expedition; Me, Peale, the propose artist of tho expedition; the representatives of the (preas, two urknown gentlemen and a small boy. Punctuality being quite unknown at the meetings of the ‘Chamber, it was thought, perhaps, that the members would came ia “promptly an bour late;”” but they failed tt do even that, and the consequence was there was no mooting organized. Captain Hall then stated to the gentlemen of the press “that he was ncw resolved to procure a boat somewhat Sarger and much stronger than the one he carried out in ‘the George Henry tn 1860, and be would embark iv the ‘whaleship Franklin, of New London, Captain S. 0, Bad- ington, and again go on a voyage of exploration, which ‘would probably extend over a space of from seven (om yoars. Messrs, Williams & Havens, Mr. 'W. H. Chappel, and Captain S. 0. Buddington, sof New London, Conn., kindly granted bim and the Esqui- emaux family a reo. passage in the ranklin, and he hopes ‘to meot with some kind assistance from his fellew citi- ‘mous, oa Captain Hall is a man of more tban ordinary intelli- ence and onergy, and wil! no doubt accomplish much in ‘his exploration; and it seems strange that our merchants @o not gee that this project of his is worthy of their sup- ‘port. But it appears that our Chamber of Commerce pre for to empley themselves in passing patriotic resolutions and perfecting a mutual admiration society rather ‘than forwarding tho interests of science and geographical werearch. Captain Hal! canclusively shows that he would be ena- ‘died with the aid of about $10,000 to carry on his wo: k fim @ manner to redound to the credit of the country, as well as himself; and when be returns again to us with ‘res laurels these same men will be the firet to seek him out and caress bim in order to bask in his sunshine. ‘The Geographical and Statistical Society of this city ‘have appointed a committee to confer with the Chamber of Commerce in relation to Captain Hall's proposed voyage; ‘Dut after two attempts the latter body have failed to even countenance the matter. ‘The steamer brings us the neWws of a crowded mecting of * the British Royal Geographical Society, by which it will be seen that our transatlantic’ eompetitors endorse Captain Hall, and give him great credit for his researches. The aiflerence betweou the jation of such researches as made by Captain Hall by the people of this country aud ‘these of Engiand is worthy of notice, and we give the ene Of the meeting of the Royal Geographical Society ote The Contrast. {From the London Tims, April 15.)
