Reports from Washi: ‘Wamuncton, April 6, 1668, Up to one o'clock this afternoon the government had Teceived no intelligence regarding the state of affairs off Charleston other than what bas siready been published from the Richmond papers of faturday. ‘The belief that Charleston has been attacked is @trengthened by the fact of the immense preparations which have been made for that purpose. Several iron- lads have recently been added to Admiral Dupent’s equadron more than he first called for, and also sub- marine vessels to remove torpedoes, &c. It is known @d that ponderous missiles from the eleven and fiftees inch guns of the Monitors will tear the fort to pieces in @ abort time.
