Being told to place it @n board, he was furnished, at his own request, wiih a thipping order for its proper receipt. Late ingghe day— tho movey not being sent to the steamer—General !u~ gevine called upon Takee, and was received with viole..t ‘abuse, vile and outrageous epithete—insulis such as would ‘Bot be for a moment submitted to froma Eur. pean, far dees from a Chinese. On the day following Genera! Bur- @evine, having returned to Sung Kiang, a letter was received from Takee stating that thg moncy was ready, and requesting him to send some person to receive it. On the 4th General Burgevine came to Shang- hae, ,aceompanied by his body guard of twelve me., ‘whom he is accustomed to keep about bimn, and proceeded swith Uhcr 40 the house of Takee. Immediately on enter fog the preanises he was tod by T kee that/ the money was ready for him, and coolies were prepared to take it to the boat. No force was used, and the money was vot @ven demanded, bat was paid over voluniarily. All ‘these facis can be substantiated by two competent wit ‘neases who aocompan.ed General Burgevine on the occa sion. * The striking of Takee was a great error, and we are @urprised that the General should have so far forgotten himself as to use personal violence on one so far bene ith him; he sbould not have lost his temper. The previous ‘feult and abuce are the only extenuation which can be offered. Tukoe has for a long time beon striving to deprive Gen.
