cok dren cert: Sree mama IMPORTANT FROM PORT ROYAL The Capture of the Anglo-Rebel Queen of the Wave, Rey Kee Oar Port Royal Correspondence. Port Rovas, 8. C., March 7, 1868. Capture of the Clyde hui Svamer Queen of the Wave— She is Run Ashore and St on Fire—The Pire Extin gutshed by Boats’ Crews from the Comemaugh— Valuable Cargo of Powder and Merciandise—Probable Saving of 4 Portion of Corio and Engines—Capture of a Rebel tacutenant and Siz Men—Arrival of the Outsleill and Bienville—Navat News, &e., Be. The gunboat Covemangh, Lieutenant Commander Wastin, accomplished 4 very clever thing last week wnilo on her post off Georgetown, S.C. A steamer was discovered one morning woking her way towards the entvange of the North Sentec, which lies to tho north of the Georgetown sboals, with, the intention of running into that river, which hag not recently been covered by a Dlockade, in consequence of the almost utter impossibility ‘of any vessel, save small fiat bottomed ones, of crossing the bar, which hag but a few fect of water on it ‘and ws always dangerous. It would seem that the Conemaugh was discovered by the atran- ger. about the tine she was made out by the latter, and the former, fearing chase and capture, from which she was not likely to escape, was headed for the ‘shore and run on it at full «peed. The captain, offlcers and crew immediately took to their boats and landed, afier having set fire to the ufter part of the vessel. Lieutenant Commander Eastman imwediately sent boats to hor, which reached her after the fire was nearly extinguished. “They found her totally deeorted, and, aftor haviag entirely ‘oxtingutebed (he flames, began an examination of the ship an’! ber cargo, She was found to be a new atyle of Clyde ‘bniit irom steamer, vamed the Queen of the Wave, and donded with a valuable cargo of merchandise aud powder. “tho foriner, being In the a: tor hold, was partially deetroy- ed, but the powder, stowed forward, was uninjured and in good condition. Fortunately for the ship the fire nad got extended forward, or sho would have been vlown ‘ utoms. The Queen of the Wave was evidently built for a blockade runner and 10 ply to ports where veevels of only the lightest draught could enter, She is of five or six hundred tons burden and draws only five feet when loaded. She ts the lightest draught steamer that has yet attempted to run the biockade, and shows conclusively (bat the nevtral English ond the rebels have determined to introduce that style preference to thoge of ordinary dranght, which can Only enter ports now elosely blockaded, it is doubtfal whether ber hull will be saved, but the Wissahickon bas been :ent up to endeavor to save her ea- gine—a splendid one—tiv powder and the blanco of her undamaged cargo, Woe sball probably be successful in this, aud save enough ‘o furnish handsome prize money to the Conemaugh. The boat which boarded the Queen oi the Wave returned to tbe Conemaugh at night, and ow the following morning Lieatenant Commander Fast- man seat up the launch, with a howitzer and a cutter, to take ant hold possession of the veasel aud to prevent wieckers from Georgetown tho reaching her and re- moving the cargo. When the boats neared her it was ai ‘ed that ® persons were on board. Covering her with the howitver, men wero quickly put on board, aud found there @ lioutenant and six men of a South Caro. tina regiment, who immediately surrendered. They had ‘come down to hold the vessel for the Confederate govern- ment agaiost unauthorized wreckers wad to get ashore She most valuable part of the cargo. ‘Tno prisoners were brought down here and placed undor guard on the Wa- wash. We now hold poreession of the ship, and when eve-ything valuadlo is secured she will be'destroyed. ‘The vessel and cargo were worth about $256,000—a loss which falls upov 8 1me enterprising Pnglishman who ‘thinks. the btockade i» imperfect. Continuation of the Hunter and Koster Difficulty—Genera Naglee Relieved from DutyActive Operations Promis- ed—Another Negro Expedition w Georgia—the Conscrip- tion of the Able- Bolted Blacks, dc. The samo difficulty which General Huster experienced ith Goneral Foster has broken out afresh in the person of General Nagiee. That offcor, having repeatedly pro tested against the erders of the Commanding General, has been relieved from duty in the department, and in a + @eciui order issued on the Sth instant was directed to proceod immediately to New York, to report by letter to the Adjutant General. ‘Tais protesting business—which, by the way, is con- sidered to be a new thing in the military line down here— was bogun shortly after the departure of General Foster for Washington. It led to” serious trouble und anaoy- ance, avd Genoral Hunter having informed the enerat-in Chief of the state of things, an order was 1s- sued from the War Department relieving Naglee from duty here, Subsequently another order was issued leav- ing it optional with General Hunter whether General ‘Nagtee should or should not be removed. Whew the order arrived, and it was ascertained that Gen. Foster had gono 2 North Carolina to remain, it was supposed, of course, that the unfortunate controversy was settled, and that, as Gen. Naglee had entered his protests simply to main- tain what he supposed to be the rights of an absent commander, there was nothing to warrant his being re- Mt seems, however, that Gen. Nagiee claimed meself what be had previously claimed for Gen. Foster, and the difficulties between the, two generals ‘wore at once renewed, General Hunter thinks harmony indispensable, and las accordingly exercised the option granted him by the Secretary of War. It is noediess to say that Gen. Naylee’s departure is a matter of extreme regret. Ho is au able, brave and ‘Uroless officer, whom his troops as aud would follow any whero.
