To-night a grand representation will be given at Walt lack’8 old theatre (German Opera House) for the benefit of the Fueach Charitable Society. Tho performance an nounced is wost attractive, and wo take pleasure in call- ing the attention of our readers to the programme—“‘Le Chevalior du Guet,” comedy yandeville, in two acts; “Pour les Pauvres,” a poem, by Victor Hugo, to be re- cited by Mile, de Bonholier, and the comic scone, “Heloise and Gargaillou.”” ‘The performance will terminate with the comedy, in ono act, ‘La Serment d’Horace.”” MES, JOHN WOOD AT LAURA KEENZ'S, Mrs. John Wood has been plnying her favorite comedy, “Tho Actress by Daylight,” and tho comedietta, “Some body Kiso,’ at Laura Keene's thontro every evening this week to very fine houses. Last evening, in spite of the torrible storm, the audience was fashionable and appro, ciative, “The Actress by Daylight” is very well known hore, but ia always attractive. Whatever may be eald of its merits as a play, it certainly gives Mrs. Wood a capital opportunity to display her versatile powers in high come- dy, low comedy, light comedy and burlesque. ‘“Some- body Else’ is amusing enough to keep the audience in excellent humor throughout, and with two such pieces on the poe a large attendance is the inevitable resul We hear that Mrs. Wood has several other light pieces and a new burlesque in active preparation, and trust soon to seo thom on the stage. More than any actress we have in the city Mra. Wood ig the favorite mirth maker, and fun and jollity are her constant attendants. She fs the only playor since Burton who has the taculty of extom- porising #o admirably as to catch the mes Cae and spirit of the author, and her arch, piquant drollery, her prett: luughiog face, and her rich, merry voice give her the most entire control of the audicnee. Nor does she lack that ability to be pathetic at will which all great comedians have, and of which mere farcours are destitute. Take her for all in all, she is without an equal among tbe preeent comedi-nnes. It is scarcely necessary, therefore, to look At tbo bills to know iu whut Mes, Wood Plays; for she is gure to be worth socing in anything, although 8 good pieco adds to het attractiveness, as a good setting beau- tifles even a diamond.
