2 FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL, Tvss par, July 1-6 P. M. ‘The following is a comparative statement of the exports (exclusive of specie) from New York to foreign ports for the week ending July | and since January l:— 1860. 186t ‘1962. Vor the woek...... $1.598,009 8.255.616 2.24,712 Previously reported 41,744,752 63,456,559 $025,156 Since January 1., .$43,643,429 66,792,105 62,105,468 This is a satisfactory exhibit, though not as large as might have been expected considering the current rate of exchange. Money can be mace im shipping almost any kind of produce to Europe at the present time, the rate of exchange is so high. It makes a great difference to be able to Gell one’s bilis at 120 instead of 108 a 109. The money market bas not begun to relax yet, @nd six per cent on cail is asked by leading lend- ees. The true rate is 6 86, which is also the quo tation for first class mercantile paper. Certificates of indebtedness, par; green back Treasury notes, 104% a %. In the course of « day or two the rate of interest will probably decline. Foreign exchange opened this morning strong at the quotation current last evening, but soon fell off in the absence of any demand for bills. The first price was 121, then 12034, then 120, then 120%, and at the close of business hours about 130% for bankers’ bills. Guid opened at 10924, fell to 108%, rallied to 10934, and closed 102 bid. The Scotia and City of Baltimore brought some bonds for sale for American account, but in most cases the exchange was limited to 115, and the bonds could not be sold. As we mentioned the other day, the advance in gold aud bills is going to put an end to the importation of Amorican stocks irom Europe by rendering it unproiitable. The China to-morrow will not take out any considerable sum in specie. The stock market opened with more firmness this morning, the public having generally recovered from the alarm which prevailed yesterday, and being inclined to view General McClellan’s move- ment as a most brilliant and successful strategical manceuvre rather than a retreat or acheck. The sixes of 1881 sold, coupon off, at 10234— au advance of 4 wince yesierday—and the general list was higher. Michigan Central rose 114; Soathern old, 4%; Mlinois, %; Cieveland and Pittsburg, %4; Gale- na, % Toledo, %; Rock Island, %; Hudson, %; Erie, 34; preferred ¥4; Central, +4; Pacific Mail, 4. New York Central is the most active stock on the list; its earnings are reported to be con- siderably in exceas of any previous earnings at this season on the road. Cleveland and Pitts- burg seems to be working its way up in spite of all opposition; it is only kept in tho hands of a receiver, we presume, in order that the few remaining tloating creditors may be shown that itis their interest to come into the plan of re- organization. Railway bonds continue active. ‘The Chicago and Northwestern seconds were 4% better this morning, and the assented bonds 1 per cent better. The Pittsburg, Fort Wayne snd Chicago firsts soid at 9234, interest off—an advance of per cent. Between the boards the market was better. Central rose to 9274. At the second board the whole market was firm and rather higher. Centrai sold at 93. There were some heavy sales of Erie bonds to-day, presumably for English account; but the amount of foreign securities reali- sed was, onthe whole, much less than was ex- pected, considering that two mails arrived between last evening and this morning. The market closed firm, the following being the last quotations :-— United States 6's, registered, 1881, 102% a 5%; United States 6’s, coupon, 1841, 102% a 103, ex in- terest; United States 5’s, 1874, 9244 a 9334, ex in- terest; Treasury noies, 7 3-10 per cent, 10534 a 44; Teuneasee 6's, 57% @ 58; Virginia 6's, 56 a 57; Missouri 6's, 60% @ 514%; American gold, 109 a 14; Pacific Mail, 116 a 4; New York Central, 93 a 34; Erie, 36% = %; do. preferred, 6434 84; Hudson River, 4% a %; Harlem, 1734 a \%: do. preferred, 4224; Reading, 69% a %; Michigan Central, 62% 2 63; Michigan Southern and Northern Indi- ana, 278%; do. guaranteed, 6034 s 24; Panam ; IMinois Central, 6144 a %; Galena and cago, 71 Cleveland and Toledo, 4934 ® %; Chicago and Rock Island, 66% a %; Milwaukee and Prairie da Chien, 3414 a %; Erie third mortgage, 97 a %; Michigan Central 5's, first mortgage, — @ 10734; Illinois Central 7's, 95 a ‘6.
