Whitlock and J.J. O'brien are censurable, the former for so svcn removing the needl:s, and ihe latter for not exercising sufficient care in the excavation of the trenches. Court of General Sessions. THE GREAT INDIANA FRAUDS—INDICTMENT AGAINST SAMUEL HALLETT, ON CHARGE OF FORGERY—HE 18 ARRESTED AND BAILED IN THE 8UM OF TIN THOUSAND DOLLARS. The Grand Jury of the General Sessions, of which Charles H. Haswell, Esq., ts foreman, brovght in a batch of indictments on Thursday, and among them w:s a pro- visjunal indictment against Samuel Hallett, a prominent merchent, for forgery, he laving been charged with fraudulently issuing Indiana State bonds. It is estimated that the alleged fraudulent issue of these bonds amounts to two and a half millions cf dollars. As soon vs the in- dictinent was filed a bench warrant was issued for Mr Haliew’s arrest, aud on being arrested he gave responsi- die bsil in the sum of $10,000 for his appearance to an- ewer the charge laid in the indictment. !t is understood tiat this indictmest is only the precursor of others which will Ta | eee early in the week, before the Grand Jury is discharged for the term. 8 District At- tourney Hall bas recovered from indisporition, the Grand Jury were materially aiced by hin in prepacmg this imp«riant case for a judicial investigation. It is not probable, however, that the cise will be tried before the September or October term of the cvurt. INDICTMENTS FOR VIOLATION OF THR SUNDAY LIQUOR LAW QUASHED BY THE CITY JUDGE.
