Pa- |. cu dos 18.—In Zion Church, Dobbs’ Ferry, cific advanced 124 per cent this morning.. | 01 Wednesday, ptember 18,.by Rev. J. ooee Wiliams There is evidently a quiet demand for this fren’ Fg mee ings, to Imamcaa P. Covzess, rot from sonie outside quarter, and it hae been sus- pected that the company was about to electrify the street with one of its usual coups-d'etat. Its business is excellent, especially on tho out- ward trips: in November it. will. probably pay the usual dividend, which may be increased this time. We imagine, however, that the late rise in the stock has same connection with the sale of the Baltic and Atlantic to government. Some time since a telegraphic order to buy these ships was actually reccived by a government agent in this city. The sale was not effected owing to a difference of opinion as to the price, and after some discussion the matter was dropped. It is now surmised that some of the shrewd operators who make 8 a 10 per cent on Pacific Mail at each of its periodical turns have received a quiet in- timation that Mr. Welles is going to carry out his original intention. Government ought to own the ships as well as the Vander* bilt and Champion. At the second board to-day the market was without change, and closed steady, the following being the last quotations:— United States 6’s, registered, 1881, 90 a 3%; do. 0’s, coupon, 1881, 905% a 9%; do. 5's, 1874, 80 a 4; Vir- ginia 6’s, 51% a 53; Tennessee 6's, 43 a 44; Missouri 6's, 43% a 34; Pacific Mail, 83% a 84; New York Central, 73% a 4%; Erie, 2634 a 14; do. preferred, 46% a 47; Hudson River, 34 a 34; Harlem, 10% a %%; do. preferred, 25a Reading, 35 a 34; Michi- gan Central, 42 a 43; Michigan Southern and Northern Indiana, 13% a 14; do. guaranteed, 3034 43144; Panama, 10934 a %; Illinois Central, 6634 a %; Galena and Chicago, 69% a %; Cleveland and Toledo, 30 a 4%; Chicago and Rock Island, 44% a ¥,; Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, 61 a 63; Dela- ware, Lackawana and Western, 67268; Milwaukee and Prairie du Chien, 18 a 19; Minois, Central bonds, 7’s, 92 2 93; Delaware and Hudson Canal, 83; Pennsylvania Coal,,75 a 77. The banks paid another instalment of the loan into the Sab-Treasury this morning, making 66 per cent of the $35,000,000 paid up. Of the $3,500,000 paid to-day, $858,000 were in 60 day Treasury notes, and $2,642,000 in specie. This does not look as though the banks were anxious to get rid of their n-tes. The Sub-Treasurer reimbursed them $350,000 this morning in payment of popular subscriptions to the loan.
