2 FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL, mene Fripay, Sept, 6—6 P. M. There is nothing new inthe money market. Pa- r continues scarce, except names which are not readily curront. The brokers borrow at 4 a5, and the supply continues in excess of the demands fatthese rates. We continue to buy very sparingly from abroad, Our imports of dry goods for the week ending to-day only amount to $832,301 against $2,273,255 same week last year, and $2,010,906 same week of 1869. Foreign exchange is steady, without much ani- mation. Bankers sell at 10724 a 94 for sterling, and 5.324 0 35 for francs. Produce bills sell at the usual concession from these prices. Stocks continue to advance, with a general in- crease of business in alidescriptions. ‘The inguiry yshares was active this morning, and prices anced in every instance, At the first board Jiinois Central rose 14 per cent, Galena 34, guaranteed %, Toledo 4, Rock island 44, Hudson 24, Brie 4, Central 24. The most popular among these speculat shares are those of the Western roads; the shares of the near by lines are hurt by the fon now pending between the Central and Pacific Mail advanced to 78 this morn- fng; the alarm regarding privateers seems to be subsiding, thongh there is, apparently, as much ground for it as there ever was. There was no change this morning in government stocks; they Continue to be bought for investment in large par- cols from day to day. The two' ycar Treasury Notes are now within 1% ef par. At this rate the 73-10 noles be worth a premium. The business done this morning in Southern Slate stocks ‘was lighter than usnal of late, and Ten- nessees declined 24 per cent.
