8 —— FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. Weonmspar, Dec. 5—6 P. M. ‘The Custom Honse tables of the trade of the port of New York for the month of November were closed to-day, and we present our ueual com- parative statement:— Amports. 1968 1860 Ratered for consuw pt!on. 27 300 322 9 978,090 5 625.418 ‘Eovered for warenouse.. 3,746 515 2106 108 8.061 048 Free goocs . } 426.620 1,955,087 2487+ Specie anc » 90446 187087 = 448 198 rt 210 501 606 Th 918 C08 16,421,106 wintc nom warchonee,2 144 66> 2190184 2 697 59L Dash dovies = 1106.62 2.167,164 1,794 748 ‘Exports Trom:stic prodnee. ». +++ For roerchand’e dutiabie. It seems from the above that while we are retaining among us all the gold we receive trom California—a thing we ave never done before since gold was first dis- @overed in that State—we are exporting more than twice as much produce as we did at this time last year, and more than three times 88 much a8 we did in November, 1858. It further appears that the pending com- mercial distress, which may be said to have com> menced a month ago, has not yet materially iater- fered with the foreign commerce of the port. Not withstanding the difficulty that has been experi- enced iu the sale of bills, our exports have been apprecedentodly large ; ow importa, which were based upon orders sent abroad before the present difficulties arose, do not of course reflect the ex- isting state of things. Our next monthly table will in all. probability tell a somewhat different tale. The prospect is, at present, that ‘our import trade for the next three months will be snusually light, as, whatever happens, the South- ern markets are lost for the preseat. It is proba- ble, however, that the aggregate of our total im- ports will not fal! far below that of corresponding wonths in previous years, as the import of spe will make up the deficiency in that of goods. ‘The contrast between the aspect of commercial affairs at the present time and the aspect they wore @ year ago is very striking. At this t. ast year @ongress had just assembled, and the long contest for the Speakership was just beginning. Sul! the public mind was not excited d business was going on as usual. Notwithstanding the heavy ex- port of specie throughout the year 1859, money was casy, and the banks were comfortable. The vate for demand loans was about 6, and some very ehoice acceptances were current at the same rate Gret class paper generally ranged from 6} to 7. Foreigti exchange was drooping; butbankers were getting 109 a { for their sterling, and 5.133 for francs. The movement of merchandise was lively, and the prospect was fair for a large foreien and a very profitable domestic trade. Cottoa was coming forward very freely, and though the Bouthern planters were investing more money in pew land and negroes than was deemed conserva- tive by their friends here, all were generally in good humor with the prospect. We need aot dwell on the contrast presented by the present condition of affuirs. Business paralyzed everywhere, mer- ehandise not saleable at New York, industry brought to a stand in New England, the fruits of agriculture gone in the West, cotton unsaleable and Incapable of being moved at the Southern ports, the banks suspended from Pennsylvania to the Gulf of Mexico, a terrible famine impending ia se- veral of the cotton and some of the Southeastern Btates, money worth two per cent a month here, stocks declining, real estate falling, ¢ man gloowy,*desponding and ready for revolution Gach is the effect of political agitations on com- for the | bjoin our usual comparative tables year to date: we 1890. 21 758.973 18 848 Sto o.aee avo 20920465 © 28.580 129 | 19 670.724 © 16 oT! 88 | 23.552 648 = 16 593.151 24009 521 19 160 2724812024 881 24600591 = 25,988 S54 u 2 16,043 585-16 280.450 | 1384298433 16,781 242 November... 421,166 | Total 11 moe . $120 $22,492 220,277 018 217,001 any Exports Domestic Produce | January. + $4208 306 = 3.072.188 Fevroary .. 8 709.870 Angunt September Votober Novemoer..
