‘The New Colors for the Seventh Regiment. It will be remembered that op the oocasion of the re- move! of the remains of ox-President Monroe from New York to Virginia, in 1968, the Seventh regiment, National Guard, Colonel Daryee, accompanied taem as a guard of | honor, Ox their return northward this gallant corps | halted for a day in Washingtoa, where they were reviewed by the President and groatly admired by all the citizens, who have ever since looked upon the Seventh as their “of military enthusiasm eufong the young men of the Dis- trict which bas resulted in the formation of several inde- pendent Corps and an entire reorganization of the militia, whieb had been altogether disbanded. was tho m:st unpleasant for such excursions, and many things consp!red to try the patience and tempers of both guests and boste; yet the gentlemen soldiers who com- pose our crack regiment were too woll bred and thoroagh- ly diacipiined to make any unseemly exhibitions of irri- tation or disappointment. ll emulated the noble exumple gf Colonel Lefferts in their vors @ make the best of everything, & determination to enjoy themselves, however ciroum- stances might shape themselves. The impression made upon the minds of the citizens of Washington by the patriotism, gallantry and gentlemanly bearing of this regiment, both officers and men, as exhibited during these visits, can never be efiaced. It is one which com- prises cverytbing that is’ noble and honorable im the citi- zen and the soldier. So general and poworftl was this sentiment that it found expression in an official form at the very nett meeting of the City Councils. On the of February, in the Board of Aldermen, Mr. W.
