He will reach Detroit on Tuesday, 4th inst, deliver an elaborately pre pared address, and thence proceed to Lansing, Mich., where he will also speak. As the Governor was about leaving his home for a long Journey, his towosmen testified their appreciation of the man by toderwg tim various testimonials of their es- teem aud good will at parting. The first was 4 PRIVATE DINSKR PARTY, Prior to bis departure from aabura, the worthy Mayor of the city, bis Honor Christopher Morgan, entertained Goveroor Seward with « select and recherché dinner. The affair was private, and occurred at the mansion of the Mayor, aud waa atteaded by Governor Seward, Goveruor Morgan (who is bere examining practicaily into the ‘merits of applications for the pardon of convicts in the Auburn State Prison), Governor Morgan’s queeulike lady, Chancellor Bush, Mayor Morgan, wife, daughter and bro. ther; Mr. G. W. Peck, editor of the auburn Daily Adver- Ciser, and others. It was one of the most agreeabie and elegant entertainments that has occurred bere for a long time, and was arracged by the hostess in truly admirable Style for the picagure of the guests. Of course there were no set eyeeches made, but the coaverration was pleasant, high toved and sensible. The Wide awakes sumbered about 220, with one ward unrepresented, on account of the noa- arrival of their baruesa. They wore acoompanted by the Auburo Brase Band, and presented a sight which was ex- tremely novel ana interesting (0 many Aubaruias ladies apd gentlemen. ‘The public meeting was held in the Court House, and the principal speaker was Gea. De Wickna™.—On Inst Saturday afternoon officer Niven, | of the Secoud ward police, arrested Dr, Wickbam, who, it will be remembered, is charged with being an accom- plice in the murder of Mre. Cole, sometime ago, in New Jersey. A full account of the particulars of the supposed murder and of the manner of the prisoner's arrest will be found in the following report of Sergeant Petty, of the Second ward Police: — David D. Wickham, M. Nothing, however, was thought of the sfair till Wickham came forward and claimed the insurance on Mrs. Cole's life, when it was discovered that this t bad been made between Mr. Cole and himself. w ite’s life insured for was to poy the first instalment of premium, after wi the Loctor was to keep it good; but if Mre.
