Reading of th priate documents and laying of the corner stoue was theo performed by the Kev. Mr. Snorer, assistant of the pastor of the church, Rev. T. W. Geisenheiner, who is now in Berlin. The address and reading was all in Germaa.. Befure placing the box in the place intended for it, there was deposited asample of all the United States coin, “Luther’s small Catechism,” the “Augsburg Confession,” “Liturgy of the Lutheran Church,” “German Bible,” copies of all the newspapers published by the Lutheran church, a cou- sensed history of the Church, from its foundation in 1841 up to the present time, written on parchment; a copy of the ‘Union Questions Book’? that are used in the Sabbath school, and the “German Hymn Book.’? On the outside of the box was inscribed the words, Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's church, built in 1860. The box having been placed in the corner stone, Rev. Mr. Shock delivered an appropriate address, in Euglish, which was listened to with marked at- tention ; at the close of which, the choir sang 4 bymn and the congregation dispersed. We bad always been under the impression that the doctor had previously been honored with that cistinction, and why uot, we can- ‘not well imagine, when scores of his brethren, not as eligible, have bad over bim. The excursion down the bay was of an exceedingly pemet character, aud if the room to move iu comforta- ly was of a minus quautity, it was wot difficult to find compensation iu the suciabilivy of ove's neighbors. On arriving in the lower bay, partly to keep off the qualms of seasickness and partly, no toubdt, to biow off the excess of steam that ulways ‘accumulates iu similar gatherings, an impromptu meeting was gotten up aud Twade the occasion of several characteristic speeches. There might be some fugitive slave w be passed on—some John Brown to be hung; and though there were other men who had the heart, if not the abi- lity, to Oli the place of George B Cheever, he trembied in his khoes lest something of this nature should occur while he was absent and unable to render bis cogent aid.
