When the vote was announced, however, the Pre- Bident informed the Board that Mr, Tucker's motion ‘Was A substitute for Mr. Farr’s, whereupon Mr. Green appealod from the decision of the President, but the Pre- Bident ordered the business of the Board to proceed, re- gardicss of the appeal and a series of ineffectual eflurts Green to have it recognized. The hall was most tastefully arranged, and decorated with plauts, Gowers and fruits, There was also a very fine collection of early kitchen vegetables from various gardeners ou Long Island. The attendance, owing to the very unfavorable state of the weather, was small; but they expect to-day to seo all their friends gather to the Athenwum to see what nature can do in a ‘floral’ and «fruitful way, A fine band was in attendance, and per- formed a great variety of airs, which seemed to enliven the scene very much. Military Affairs. DEPATTURE OF TAK NEW YORK LIGHT GUARD FOR NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND. The New York Light Guard, Captain John R. Garland, took their departure yesterday, at five o'clock P. M., in the steamer Bay State, of the Fall River line, for Newport, Rhode Island, where they are to celebrate their ann'yer- sary to-day, They were attired in their neat company uniform—white dress coats, faced with blue cloth, blue pants and white stripes, bearskin shakos, and black enamelled belts. They mustered sixty-five muskets, and three commissioned officers, and were accompanied by Dodworth's Band, consisting of forty-five musicians. The band wore their new rich¥rench uniform, At Newport the Guard will be Joined by the Boston Light Infantry and the Providence Light Infantry. These three companies will repre at the citizen soldiery of the thirce States, viz: New Yo.x, Massachusetts aud Rhode Island. EVENING PARADE COMPANY G, TWELFTH REGIMENT— SERENADE. On Tuesday evening Company G, Captain Boyls, of the Independence Guard, paraded with full dram band, forty-four muskets, and proceeded by invitation to the residence of one of their old mem bers, Mr. Walker, in Livingston place. A bountiful col- lation and warm reception here awaited them, Speeches, toasts, &c., with the good things for the inner man, occ" pied an hour or two in a manner exceedingly agreeable to all present, Mr. Walker was a member of the old Guard over twenty years ago, under Capt. Cairns. After leaving . Walker's the command marched to the residence ot Col. Butterfield, in Twenty-first street, and serenaded him. They then returned to their quarters and were dismissed. The parade was a tine one, attracting a large crowd Of spectators, and passed off in the most pleasant manuer. Police Intelligence. MecArdell was the proprictor of a saloon, and seld out his stock, fixtures and good will to the defendant for a certain consideration, of which the $300 nete formed a part. This note, it is charged, was allowed to go to protest; and, upon com: plajnant's inquiring as to the responsibility ‘of the de- fondant, in case a civil suit was cotnmenced, it was found that the latter had made false representations his worth and means, sponsible party.
