Torspar, May 22—6 P. M. The following is 2 comparative statement of the exports (exclusive of specie) from New York to foreign ports for the week and since January 1:— 1868. 1989. 1800. For the woek.,..... $1,280,848 1,883,376 1,586,119 Previously reported. 23,116,636 25,852,908 30,691,108 Since January 1,,925,207,454 24,935,879 62,997,222 The excess is again on the side of the current year, and the aggregate increase in our exports since January 1 is now about $7,250,000 over last year, and $8,850,000 over 1858. The chi items of export last week were cereals—of whith we note pretty heavy shipments to (reat Britain—bvread- stuffs, which we are supplying, as usual, to all parts of the world, and miscellaneous articles, The cotton export was light last week, the principal shipment being to Havre. Adding the specie ex- port to that of merchandise and produce, the ac- count of the port for the week will show a larger balance acainst ws than the same week last year id; for though the imports were light, and the produce export larger than last year, the decline in the specie export was very considerable. Money is very easy indeed, and we hear of bor- rowers who pretend to pay less than five por cent. We can hear of mo actual transactions below that figure, but there can be no question but the sup- ply at that rate is in excess of the demand. Good paper was never so scarce as it is; the 6 per cont Treasury notes are wanted at one per cent pre- mium. The reduction in the bank rate of interest in England is calculated to encourage further ex- pansion here. Foreign exchange is quoted flat—the asking rates being 109) for 60 day bills on London, and 110} for short sight—less the usual brokerage in both cases; for bills on Paria, 5.124 a for 60 day bills, and 5.114 for short sight. Th is very bare of suitable commercial bills, and bars are scarce and dear; hence many are not anxious to sell. The steamer Asia, which sails to- morrow, will probably take a very small amount of gold, The next heavy shipment will be on Satar- day. ‘The following are the last quotations of sight ex- change on New York at the cities mentioned, the quotations being in all cases for gold: — closing that bid, against £22 yesterday; Galens fel to G4j,Rock Ialand to 694, Pacific Mail to 99, and other stocks to corresponding figures.
