The steamships city of Manchester and New York sailed from this port to-day for Europe, the former with $217,551, the latter with $301,720, ia specie on freight, making the total shipment of the day $519,271. On the other hand, the steamsbip North Star arrived this morning from Aspiawwall with $1,242,391 in specie from California; the cor- responding arrival last year was $1,480,115. The banks thus commence business next week with nearly three quarters of a million more guld than they had at the beginning of last week. Money is if anything cheaper than it was yester- day; several bank cashiers and brokers have bees endeavoring to place money at 5 without much success. Exchange closed dull at previous rates.
