D-, No. 99 Lewis street, corner of Stanton street. New York, May 9, 1860. The Virginia Delegation to Chicage. TO THE BDITOR OF THE HERALD. Wastuncron, May 8, 1860. In the Herat ef yesterday you state that John C. Un- derwood, one of the delegates from Virginia to the Chicago Convention, is not a resident of the State. In thie I know you are misinformed. It ie true that in 1856 Mr. Underwood was compelled, in order to preven* violence and threats of his life for the part he took in the nomination of Col. Fremont, to absent mimself from the State for several months, and since that time he has been frequently absent from the character of his business, being employed in selling the wild and desorted lands oi the Uld Dominion for a company chartered for that pur- pose. But his family have the time continued their residence in the State, and Mr. Underwood has been a Jarge portion of the time within the State, never for a mo- ment proposing @ change of residence; and let me add, no son of hers has within the last four years done more than he to promote the best interests of my native Vir- ainia.
