ADADEMY oF Music. —After « brief recess in the season at the Academy, Rossin!’s ‘‘ Moses in Egypt’’ was produced Inst night toa full and fashionable audience, and with every indication of a fiattering success. The work is 80 ‘well known to this pubiic—it has been sung in parts and snd as a whole both in English and Italian many times during the last twenty years—that anything like « critical analysis would be superfluous. The beauty and sweetness: of the music, both vocal and instrumental, the elaborate choruses, the grand march and the admirable prayer, are all as familiar to connoisseurs a8 houshold words The libretio affords every opportunity for theatrical ilvstration, and the management of the Academy have not been niggardly aa regards the mise en scéne. We have rarely seen @ lyric drama fo well mounted as this. Scenery, costumes, properties, &c., are all in good taste, and tbe opera bas been weil and faithfully produced There te a double chorua, and the orchestra, under Mr. Mozio, bas been enlarged. This was especially important, hecauge the work depends upon its ens-mides and concerted piecet ther than on the salient air whieh arouses the entbveiagm of the audience, provokes an encore and sends the poblic away with the mology ringing ia its ears. The principal solo parie—and they are not in them selves strong~ fell into the hands of Adelina Pati, Mme, Suekosch, Brignoli, Ferri and Susini. Although the opera affords no especial opportunity for fine singers to siepley their gif in effective solos, yet both Patti aud Prignoli sarg #0 well ® to carry the work through the Orst ana secoud ects, which are not over and above lively, and prepared the audience for the grand music of she tied and fourth, Throughout the opera there are many morceaus d’on vmile—all of whicb received full justice A jeling Pa'tl wang a role entirely oitferent from those she has hereto: fore ceeayed, and she made a diiaguished success ia it Tete wot too ‘much to Pay for Misa Patti that in good time sho will be sdcounted ax howiing & very high rank among the very best singers in the world.
