The cotton market has probably now felt the full effect of the large estimates of the crop of 1859; its steadiness indicates @ steadily increasing can- sumotion of the staple. The expected advance in breadstafis has been delayed by the heavy stocks on hand at the great depots of trade; by and by, 8 these stocks ran down, an upward movement May, perhaps, be expected. The London money market is quoted active, as usual at the season of New Year. Our money market is again easier to-day. The rate for call loans must now be quoted 6 a 6}, though parties are borrowing still at 7. After two o'clock to-day money was easily had at 6. At the discount houses the day is reported dull, with litue paper offering, and no increase in the supply of money. Seven {s still the minimum rate for the choicest shortacceptances. Wall street seems to have made up fts mind to its repeated disappoint- ments on the subject of the Speakership; politics Sre less talked of than they were. The failure of the metal house, to which we alluded the other day, is to-day publicly announced; it is the well koown frm of Marshall Lefferts & Brother. The liabilities are not believed to be excessive, These was, as usual, very little done to-day in foreign exchange, but the tone of the market indicates increased firmness. Bankers will proba- bly ask 1083 @ 109 to-morrow morning, and very few good commercial bills will probably be offered under 108, The stock market continues steady, and, with the exception of New York Central, seems to tend up- ward. The recent relaxation in the money market hae thrown some money into stocks; the increasing traffic on the ‘Vestern railways is likewise tempting some parties into the market.
