This society is a sepapate orgaui- zaton from the State Agricultural Society, under whose avepices agricultural fairs were Gret estabtisbed in Vir- ginia, and conducted for some five or six years. The Publis interest in the enterprise began to diminish a year or two ago, und with It the sinews of war, and the society, scoing but little prospect of realizing the necessary amount for premiums from the ordinary sources, entry fees, eubscriptions, &c., demanded of the Qty Counell of this city a guarantee of come five or #ix thousand dollars, by way of counterbalance for the falling off ia the reecipts, as a condition ef the fair being continued im Richmond. The City Qvunsel ro- fused, whereupon the guarantee was tendered w Petersburg, and tho fair was accordingly traveferred to that city. Some little agitation had been produced in financial circles by the circulation of alarming political rumors at Paris; but be- fore the steamer sailed, quiet had been restored, aud the funds closed at 95% a %, and the Rentes at 69.50. The mouey market in London was easier; the bank bad lost £364,000 in bullion, but hiad increased £1,000,000 in gov ernment securities.
