MAUCH CauNK, Sept. 23, 1859. ‘The heavy rains which have been falling in this vicinity during the whole week have raised the Lehigh river fully eight feet above its ordinary mark. Our streets are over- flowed, the water being from ono to three feet in depth, and all our cellars are flooved. Citizens are moving about in boats, saving what property they can. It is im- possible now to estimate the damage, but it must prove to de immense. Easton, Sept. 23, 1859. ‘The Lehigh and Delaware rivers are both rising rapidly. A serious break in the Delaware canal at Yardleyville is reported. It is said that forty feet of the embankment are washed away. ‘Tho damage to the East Pennsylvania and Lebigh Val- ley Railroads has been repaired, and trains are running regularly. *RESHET IN THE SCHUYLKILL—OVERFLOW OF THE CANALS, ETC. Zuazua ‘was there conferring with Vidaurri. Velez, with 700 men and four guns, holds Guanajuato, and had banished a number of liberals. Miramon was arming 4,300 men for Northern Mexico. Whe Southern Pacific Railroad. Nw Orteans, Sept. 28, 1859, Late advices from Marshall, Texas, state that President Fowlkes, of the Southern Pacific Railway, has made a final settlement with the new company and creditors, and ‘Obtained full possession of the road, and that the work will be recommenced immediately. Murder in New Hampshire. MancuesTer, N. H., Sept. 23, 1859. Bridget Riley, who for some years has been employed in factories here, was found this morning murdered in a yard in the lower part of the city. Tho body was shock- ingly mangled. The occupants of the premises are Scotch and Irish, but denied all knowledge of the tra- gedy. Bridget was about twenty-five years old, A Coroner’s inquest is investigating the matter. The Ohio River. Parkerssera, Va., Sept. 22, 1859. The Ohio river at this point, two hundred miles below Pittaburg, is twelve feet deep in the channel and rising fast. There has been steady rain for the past twenty- ‘four hours. Town Anniversary. Bostox, Sept. 22, 1859. The 205th anniversary of the settlement of the town of ‘Chelmsford, Mass., was observed yesterday by the dedi- ‘cation of a granite monument, erected to the memory of those patriots of the town who lost their lives in the cause ‘of independence. The exercises consisted of an address by Dr. Willard Parker, of New York, and a procession and dinner, at which sentiments were given and appro- «priate specebes made. Marine Disaster. Squax, Sept. 23, 1859. ‘The brig Mason B. Davis, of Boston, Captain O'Neal, from Savannah, with a cargo of mahogany and palm leaf, con- signed to order, is ashore six miles north of Squan Inlet. The schooner Harrison Jones, Captain Gannon, from Florida, with a cargo of red cedar, is also ashore near the game place. Both vessels were bound to New York. All hands saved. Rutanva to rm Suynat Laws.—It was rumored that a ¢acus of executive ofl cers of the city, including the Geiieral Superintendent of Police, District Attorney, Corporatiot Counsel and Excise Commissioners, was to have been held y¢sterday for the purpose of deciding upon the best mothod of enforcing the Sunday laws. It appears that thore are a itpmber of ways in which the offenders, as regards the sale of liquor on Sunday, may be punished, and the rumor was {tat the caucus of executive officers was to decide upon some concerted plan of action. Our reporter could not find the locale of any such meeting. It was rumored the officials named are too fond of an occasional glass of lager to mod- dle more than they do with the innocent amusements of the peoplo, and that matters and things in the city will go along as they have done for years despite these spasmo- dic attempts at a semblance of vigilance in fresh officials. ‘Tux Porc Commissioners.—This Star Chamber organi- zation held a meeting yesterday. The following men were dismissed:—T. ©. Ferris, Sixth precinct, and Wm. Quinn, First precinct. Tho following were appointed from the old force:—M. O’Brien and T. Wallace, of the Fourteenth precinct; W. Farrel, J. H. Voss and J. Long, Seventeenth precinct; J. FIREMEN, BE CAREFUL OF YouR WareR.—On Thursday noon there was an alarm in Canal strect. Mr. Lamaine, a fireman, who was passing at the time, rushed into the house, and by throwing a bed, then in flames, out of the window, put out the fire. Soon after Engine No. 31, al- ways on hand, came up and began to throw water into the building. There was no fire there, but the building was flooded. Boys, don’t throw away your water. J.) tunnel, en ER Police Intelligenee. Tar O'BrmN Case.—The examination in the caso of Councilman McCarty and others, charged with assault- ing Wm. O’Brien, and who were on Thursday committed to the Tombs, did not take plaee yesterday, but was ad- journed over till this morning. Three of the arrested party gave bail, but Councilman McCarty preferred waiting a hearing, and was therefore recommitted to the Tombs.
