Commissioners, the membors of the press, the representatives of the Geveral Nyx—(interrupting)—And congervators of tho peace. (Lavghter.) Rerortex—-(continuing)—Are anxious to know, on be. haif of tie peopio, what the Police Jommissioners propose to do with the men who are today reporting for duty, claiming to be still members of te force. General Nyz—Weh, I can answer that queation ina mi- nute—we don’t propose to do anytuing with tavm. ReporteR—Bot aro they not eutitied to be reinstated under this decision of the Court? General Nye—We do not understand the Court to have decided more than one case. Wo have vot yet revived a notice of judgment. When we get taat woe shail know what to do. Reportsr—Are we to understand, tea, that you intend to put every one of the old force to the samy trouble and expepee a8 Mr. McOune has been, to get reinatated ? Gen. Nyk—Of course each particular case will be governed by its own merit ‘ ‘eats ‘Then you don’t propose to men ‘back in @ batch? Gen. Nre—Well, I guess not. Rarortxn—I suppose there will be no doubt about Mr. McCune’s going back under the decision in his case? Gen. Nye (with teristic and most knowing ‘wink)—Won’t there, eb? Mr. SrRaNaHAN—I guess they hadn’t better try apy uni- forms quite yet. I think you may put it down as certain tbat those men who have not been legally be forthwith tried properly. ‘RevoRTER—But will not that be an admission that they are still members of the force? Gen. Nyg—Then there will come up the question whetber tbey have been in other business. Reroxrzr—How can that make any difference, if they have not been dismissed properly? Gen. Nyz—I guess a man who has been drawing a good salary from the Custom House won't be likely to get pay policeman. Kevor1xR—Has the Board taken apy decided action on the subject? Gen, Nyg—I have already told you that the Board will take counsel in the matter, and be governed by that, We are to meet apd come to a conclusion yet. Rerorter—The public would be interested in your dis- cussion of the quegtion; you ought to admit the members of the press. Gen. Nyk—We shan’t do anything of importance, and you are welsome to come and ace us to morrow. Reroxier—That is just what we compiain of. You al- low us in when you do notbing of importance, but when you do anything worth reporting you keep us out. One thing we tiked Mayor Wood for was because he wanted open sessions. Mr. SrRaNAHAN—But you neyer knew he was the first man to try to Keep you out. Mr, Snisan—Auother question of importance may be, whether the Metropolitan Police district can be legally re- gpontible for the pay of these municipal men. Mr. StRaNanan—Yes, there are a number of questions which will arise which make all the cases different and requiring separate consideration. From this point the conversation became desultory, and the reporters soon after retired. It is stated tbat the old police bave taken measures to place an injunction on the pay of the Metropoiitans, in order to secure their own back pay. “anaber rumor states that ono legal firm, which has cbarge of # large number of these cases, if the back pay of ali the men ie recovered, will net the nice little sum of $100,000, a8 a per centege previously agreed upon for its Jegal services, 1D Case ot success. From the staiement of the Commissioners, it appears to be their evident determination to contest the reinstalment of the old force to the fulleat extent, aud in addition to the million dollars of back pay, itis not at all improbable that the city may have to pay a heavy Dill of costs for law suits. ‘The end fs not yet. So much for stupid alba- ny legislation, usurping the control of municipal affairs. wil City Politics. ‘The Tammany Hall and Mozart Hail General Committocs: held their regular monthly meetings last night. At Tam- many Hall a long preamble and resolutions were presented by Wm. D. Kennedy, of tho Ninth ward, and adopted by the committee, denouncing the legislative interference in the local affairs of the city, and undermining civic rights and curtailing mupictpai privileges, with a yiew finaily to deprive the citizens of ail practical voice in the coutrol and direction of their immediate aifairs, The committee approved of the decision of the highest tribunul in the State in condemning the action of the repabli- can Police Commissioners, which they hail as the first assured promise of a bright and glorious dawn, aftor along nightmare of oppression, They congratulate the Municipal Police of this city, in tho recent juaicial decision in their favor, and agreed’ to publish 100,000 copies of Senator Frank Spinola’s report ou the working of the Metropolitan Police Commission, for distribution tirough- out the city and State as the best comment on the infa- mies to which partisan legisiation can give birth. Taey denounce the proposed smendments to the city charter, and resolved tnat if these outrages be continued and redress refused, the people will be com- pelled, with reluctanes, to fall back upon their natural rights, and appeal to tho senso of justice throughout the country to wustain them in resorting to the ouly meats lett for the vindication of their franchises. They congratulate the citizens of Brooklyn on their recent victory over the local representatives of this tyrannical and rapacious power. The closing resolution empowers the Committee on Organization to call a great mass mect- jog Of citizens, irrespective of party, protest against intringements on municipal rights. The Mozart Hall com- mittee adopted similar resolutions, ‘Tho Tammany Society held a epecial meeting last nigh!, and initiated General Joseph Lane, United States Senator from Oregon, a member of their body.
