The Clerk of the Common Council was directed to prosure the priating of invitation circulars to be sent to the Mayors of New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Ba'timore, Washington, Albany, Buffalo Rochestor—in fact all tho cities in this State and any considerable town within 300 miles distance, ‘The fire departments of al! these cities are alsa to be in- vited. Improving Navig ution tN Canapa.—The Cana- dians have surveyed and are about constructing a canal to connect Lake Huron with Lake Ontario. This wiil very greatly shorten the distance by water from the States ad- jecent to Lakes Michigan and Superior, to the Eastern mar- ket. They hope by meane of it to divert a large part of the traffic which now comes down Lake Erie.
