Judoh.—Tn this case a writ of habeas Corpus was granted returnable this morning. It appeared that Mrs. Jadah is a Romaa Catholic, and Mr, Judah a Hebrew. Ditiieulties having arisen between them, their eldest dovgbter, Maria Louisa Judah, was sent by her father, sone five years ago, to his mothor, with whom she re- sited till “about four weeks ago, when the grandmother ded. Judah then applied to her hnsbani, who wae living separate {rom her, for the cus- tody of the child, which was refused. Subsequent to ‘the denth of the grandmother the daughter had goue voluptarily to resids with her uncle, Mr. Edward Indah, to whom the writ of habeas corpus was issuod. ‘The return to the writ ect forth that the girl had left Mr Edward Judah and gone to Canada, where some of ber relatives resided, Counsel for the mother of the child contended that Mr. Judah had rendered himself lia’vle to punishment for contempt in persuading the daughter to jeave with iutent to avoid the effect of the writ, and that the ebild being under fourteen years or ago, the mather was entitled to her custody.
