Interesting Case of Rody Snatching. ‘The particulars of an interesting cuse of body snatching have jnst come to light, Tho facts in the case, as stated to our reporter al Bellevue Hospital yesterday, are brie !y. ‘a6 follows:—On the Tih inst, Coroner Perry was called ‘upon to hold an inquest at (he Mechanics’ House, No. 418 ‘Pearl street, upon the body of an unknown max, who had died without tue benelit of medical attendance. The case ‘was a plain one, and did not detain the Coroner Jong, S000, after the officis!’s departare a voliiclo, exactly similar to the dead cart nsed by the Alimshouse Department, drove ‘up Wo the premiges, and in @ trice the body of deceased ‘was lifted into the wagon and driven off. The body suatohers—fur such thoy were—made straightway for the Medical College, in Fourteenth street, an! there disposed of the corpse to the students, who are ever anxious to get hold of a “fresh case.” All weat on wol! for a fow days, when, lo and behold! the friends of the unknown man came to tho Coroner's office and made inquiries relative to the whereabouts of the Dody, stating that the deceased’s name was Carey, and ‘hat they were anxious to give him a decent burial. The Coroner directed them to Bellovue Hospital for informa- tion, at the same timo telling them that it was moro than Ukely they would have to search for the corpse in Potter's Field. Off the friends posted to Bollevue Hospital, anxious that no time should be Jost in the premises. What was their astonishment, however, when they learned from the “warden, Mr. Daly, that no body bearing the doscription of deceased bad ever entered the walls of that insti- tution. The suspicion that the body had been stolen for dissecting purposes maturally flashed across “the minds of deceased's friends, and full of indignation at tho outragagthey at once proceeded to investigate tho case ‘with the view of discovering the guilty partics. They ap- ‘plied to his Honor the Mayor for reliof in the matter, when. officers were despatched to the differeut inedical colleges in the city with instructions to leave no stone unturned until the frieads of the deceased were made perfectiy sa- tistied. Alicr some deiay the police discovered the body iw the Fourtceuth street college, It had been injectod with preservatives, and bad been operated upon to some oxtent, and the students were loath to give it up in that distigured condition. However, they determined to make the subject look a5 natural as they could under the circumstances. So they patch. ed it up with pieces from some othor bodies, and endeavored to remedy the evil as much as possible, weil knowing that there would be quite a noise avout the matter if they did not do so, Bot all their ingenuity proved of little avail, The friends quickiy discovered thé state of the corpse, and were loud in their coutemnation of the conduct of ical students generally, and those at the Fourteenth street collece especiaily. Tue body of de- ceased, or rather what war left of it, was conveyed to the dead, house at Bellevue Hospital on Thursday last, and “efforts were made to get Coroner Connery to hold a second inquest, with the view of ferrotiag out the persons who stole the corpse from its piace of deposit in Pearl street. Bot Coroner Connery, with bis usual astute. 086, saw that he bad no power toact in the premises, and wi coor dingly declined to interfere, or have anytising to do ‘with the case. And thus the matter stands’ at present. ‘The friends of the deceased maa strougly suspect « certain M.D. of being the leading spirit in the affair, but no steps have yet been taken to have him arrested or brought to account for his unlawfui couduct. Tho aifair has pro- duced a great deal of talk and exeitement around the -Coroner’s office apd in the hospitals and medical colleges, and the finale of the case is looked to with an unusual de. gree of interest. ‘The brother of the deceased informa us that the beur Still laid at the Bellevue Huspital last night; and althoug! he is very anxious to have it decently buried, he will not do 80 vant the matter is fully javertigated by Coroner Connery or some other official, As the man is naturaily anueh distressed in wind, it is ious be hoped thai the Mayor ‘will aid him in bis endeavors for justice.
