Wasniwaron, July 22, 1858. ‘The Secretary of the Navy is making arrange ments to send a sufficient force to Paraguay to make the American flag respected there. He has some difficulty in deciding upon the vessels to send. Un- fortunately we are Geticlent in the class of vessels of light craft of water for sch @ service, A force will bo sent, however, and that without delay. It ia pity that, when Congress authorizes @ demon- stration xgainst any foreign Power to redress wrongs, it does not consider the force available for such service. The sloops-of-war for which appropriation was made last session of Congress will be consieucted at the following piaces:—One at Pensacola; one at Norfoik; one at Kittery, Maine; ove paddle wheel steamer, drawing three to four feet of water, at Sau Francisco; twe probably at Philadelphia, aud two at New York. There was some thought of con- vlnucting ove at Boston and only one at New York; but looking at the amount of work done and now being done at Boston for the navy, and the supe- rior facilities at New York, it is believed none will be constructed at Boston, and therefore two will be beilt at New York. Ne doubt two will be given to Philadelphia. Three are to draw not more than ten feet of water, and the rest not more than fourteen feet. The Secretary of the Navy, seeing the necessity for vessels of light draft, will not per- nét them to exceed this, but rather desires they should be under that dratt. The Secretary of the Navy will shortly visit the avy yards at the North A naval conrt martial has been ordered for the trial of Assistant Surgeon Burtt, at Norfolk, on the 20th inst., to consist of Cuptain Parviance; Com manders itobh, Tucker, Henderson, Pennock and Melntech; Lieut. The others will be warranted as vacaacies occur. ‘The reports spread over the country through the press that General Quitman died of National Hotel disease is literally humbug, if nothing worse. I have ascertained ws a fact that General Quitman left the National the 29th of November, 1856, three months before any disease was known there, aud never boarded at that hotel afterwards. The Butisloes have literally vamoosed.
