Im addition to Wa. B Astor and bis family, were two of the younger members Of the richest noble houses im Grest Britain—Lora R Grosvenor and Lord H. F. Cavendisb—one represeating the wealthy family of Weatminater, and the othor that of the hard!y lees wealthy house of Devoashire, The H>a- orable Evelyn Ashiey #lso—a scion of the house of Bhafteebury—acoompanied the toro young lords on a tour of pleasure to America. The three Eoglish nobiemen have taken up their quarters al the Evereti House, and will re main in New York for a short time, previous to visitiog the most interesting parte of this great country. As they are all young, ricb, full of vigor, and ripe for exjoyment, a0 doubt their travel on this continent will not prove fruit ess of pleagure of the highest and keenestorder. It may bein: teresting to our readers to know more mixutsly who our new visiters are. Lord Richard de Aquila Grosvenor is the third son of the present Marquis of Weatmixster, the rich- est nobleman in England. His income is said t» be equal to $6,000 aday. The Marquis marrie1 tae youngest daughter of the first Duke of Suttterlané, aod het several children, of whom our present visiter is the third. Lord Richard Grosvenor is quite a young mas, having only arrived at his majority ia January last. The Grosvenors trace their deacons in the mate line from — family of Normandy, a ceatury and a baif vefore the conquest of England. The founder of the Koglish branch of the family was Sir Gilbert Le Grosvenor, who came over to England with William the Conqueror, and in the year 1761 one of his successors wes created Baron Grosvenor, of Eaton, ive county of Chester, a title sull borne, we believe, by the Marquis of Westminster. Lord Henry Frederick Oavendish ts, if we mistake not, & younger son of the present Duke of Devonshire, who has recently become entitled to the coronet and estates of the Iate Duke, around the history of whose birth gossip bas throw so much romance. He was said to have been ‘the child of some dependent of the former Duke, who was substitued at nurse far tho real boir, but having obtained poeeession, which ia nine points in the law, and moreover money to contest a suit, the members of tho family con. cluded to permit him to enjoy the iaberitauce of his re puted father during his lifetime—he consenting uot to warry. This we bolieve ia the story, and es the late Duke is alieged to have kept his compact, thongh some tales have been set up of a legal marriage, real Caven— dish once more claims the dukedom of Devonshire, with {ts immense wealth, and its magnificent seats of Chatworth, Chiswick, Lismore and the rest. The Cavendishes +re a very ancient family. A Sir John Cavendish was the body eequire of King Richard the Second, and is reported to have been the knight who killed Wat Tyler at Blackbeath, when Mayor Walworth struck the gallant rebel down with bis mace. The Caven- dish family laid the fonndstion of their fortunes im the Ume of Henry the Eighth, when the abbey and monastery lands wero disposed of to the friends of the reforming monarch. Sir William Caveniish had been gentieman usher to the unfortunate Cardinal Wolsey; but he does not seem to have shared either the disgrace or the poverty of his master, for no small sbare of the confiscated lands of the church, whose tomporalities were so liberally be- stowed upon the friends of the rising establishment at that time, fell into his bands, ‘The Hon. A. Evelyn Melvourne Ashioy is the fourth son of the Sarl of Shaftesbury, better known for many years past, for his humanitarian principles, as Lord Ashley, in the British House of Commons. Hon. Mr. Aabiey is also quite young, not yet twenty two. We have stili another English nobleman staying in this city at present, Lord Ribiesdale, who came here ty the Africas on her last voyage. His lordship was present on board the Una at the Ovean regatta of our New York Yach« Cuber Thursday. He is quite a sporting character, woll known en the turf in Eog land, and waa, and perhaps eti!! 3 officer in the Royal Horse Guards Blue, Lord Baron Riblesdale, of Gisburno Park, Yorkshire, ts the third baron of that title, to which be succeeded in December, 1832. His family name is Thomas Lister, a very sacient patronymic in the locality where the Gisburne estates lie, and which have been held by the Listers for full five centuries. His lordship, we believe, is a peer of the realm. He is a little over thirty years of age, and no doubt intends to improve his sport- ig experience by studying how we run our yachts and horses, and bunt our deer and prairie chickens tn this country. His mother, the dowagor Baroness Riblerdale, married Lord John Kussell to 1835; but she died soon afer, in 1838, and made one of the three widows with ‘whom that astute little statesman wedded, which won for him thetitie by which he has been so often styled— “the widow's mite.” Another boble passenger by the Porsia was the Baroo Weillerrtead, the pew Mivister from Swedeo and Norway to our government Tbe Baron stopped at the Clarendon until last ight, when be departed on the evening train for the cepttal. wi G e been appointed Vepervela st Poiadelpbia — Captain Anderson, of the Firat oevairy, bas resigned bis commission in the army. Under the recent lnwe the prisoner, thongh couvicted in the Sepreme Court Cirevit, must be sentenced at the general term, the Judge who presided at the trial being the mouthpiece of the Court. We unders'anc that the counsel for the convict intend to move ap arrest of judgment and for a new trial, op various grounds. It will be contended that the verdict was not in accordance with the evidence and that the trial was illegal, inasmuch as thet the law does not authorizs the power of counrel (or even of the person himself to waive the rights of tho accused, and that this was done by submitting the care to eleven jurors. These points and exceptions taken during the trial will form the groundwork of the motions for arrest of judg- ment, and anew trial.
