Monprnovs issavit.—Last evening, whilet Mr. Hiram ‘We understand thet the negotiations which have been | Orenston, propictor of the New York Hotel, was quict'y im train for some time for the transfer of one of the Lon- don Opera companies to New York for the ensuing autuma and winter ecasom, have now been nearly finished. TK appears quite certain that an engagement has been almost completed with Mr. Lumley, the manager of her Majesty's theatre, London, and that he will bring to this country in August next his entire opera and ballet com- Pasy, with which will be given trom fifty to one hundred representations in New York, Philadelpnia and Boston. One of the most remurkable facts connected with this movement is that Wikoff, the great American chevalier, and Barnum, the atill greater Amorican obariatan, have been the principal negotiators in arranging the plans for the vast enterpriee, which is a combination of Barnun’s great cowp with Jenny Lind, and Wikoff’s American cam- paign with Fanny Elesler. The present enterprise in- oludes both attractions—opera aad ballet—ia one grand combination. Barnum, we are told, bas eettled with all his creditors, arranged al! his affairs, and is now a greater millionaire thanever. arrayed in a black dress coat, trreprosohable trowsers, a white waistooat, witha five hundred dollar diamond pin in his shirt bosom, and two three hundred dollar rings on his flagers, be is engaged in procuring sub- soriptions for his great season of Italian Opera. We are informed that he bas already succeeded in obtaining be- tween four hupdred and five hundred sadsoribers for a Certain number of cents for the first season at the Acade- my of Music, of forty nights, more or less. He only re- quires six handred subscribers, at five dollars the ticket for each persm—the same price as that charged at hor Majesty’s theatre, London. This subscription will enable us to bear one of the most magaificent opera companies ever collected together in the world. The negotiations have beeu going on in London during some time, and were condusted oa the part of Barnum by Mr. Wilton, his agent. Barnum agrees to aeposit ia Lou- don at his banker's, £15,000 ($70,000) to the credit of Lamley, before either the impresario or hig company go on shipboard. He (Barnum) likewise agrees to pay Lum- ey $4,000 per night for each represoutation in Amorica, and the travelling expenses of the artiss as weil. In thia enterprise the London impresario, uumley, will accom- pany the troupe, and attend to the most vexatious and dif. ficult of all worldiy operations—ihe management of the artists and gonera! direction of affairs behind the scenes. Mr. Lamley’s troupe ie a superb ono, His greatest card is Mile Piccolomini, the Traviate, Lucia and Fille du Regi met of the company. Piccolomini is not much larger than a picayunc, but is young, fresh, protsy, aad @ capital actrees. She made a tremendous furore in Italy, wad hes been the reigning favorite in London during the past two seasons. For the heavy tragic operas Mr. Lum- ley bas a German prima donna, ‘Niens, who has jest come out m london, and has made @ great success. The tenor, Guigifoi, bas fow rivals in Eu- rope—pone here. He will make an immease son gation among the large class of young ladies who have @ weakness for tonors. Then there is to be a graod ballet with Pocohini, a new danseuse, who has sot the Lonconors crazy, Rosati, and othor first rate artists, = grand orchestra, chorus, &c., &c.—in fact,» first class company, sufficieut to fill up au ocean steamer. We presume, also, that Mr. Lumley will not forget to Dring over s few London policemen to keep order, and a couple of immense tellows from the Horse Guards te act as sentinels; also half a dozen of the British aristocracy who are a iitiic down at the hesis, to teach our Fifth avouue fashionsbles how to bebave in the boxes and during the intervals of tho performance. At every representation will be given one of the finest operas of the modern repertoire, with a ballet between the acts. This ballet will bo goyen up in tho highest Pa. risian and London style. This feature of the entertain- meot is entirely now in this country. This immense enterprise, set on foot by the combined effort of the genius of Wikoff and Barnum, embraces, as ave before remarked, all the strong points of the two great ovents in their individual careers—the campaigns with Jonny Lind and Fanny Eissler. They will now out- shine themselves. In mentioning the names of the high contracting parties to these negotiations, we should not, however, omit to mention that our own magnificent little Napoleon of the Opers—Ulmann—is likewise interested. From him the others lease the Opera House. Ho will be the principal manager of the press, the oyster house critics, the saloons, lagor bier bars, and other details of the house. Barnum, from his experience with banks, real estate, clocks, horses, elephants, &c., &¢., is supposed to be skilled in financial matters, and be will, therefore, take care of allthe money. Lumley will manage the two prima donne, the otner ar- tiate, chorus and personnel of the opera, for which delicate and diffalt task bs London expertonce ominently fits him.
