It appears that the paper was deliver. ed at the office of the Superiatendent of #ublis Property, tn bundier g to contain half ® ream each, and as wach it has been delivered to the chief clerks of the Senate and Aseembly, But om examination of these bundies it that there are only two hundred sheets in each bundies which have been treated as half reams are really less than quarter reams, ‘and the State is charged the rather extensive price of 9906 £0 for eight reams and seven quires of paper, and the cbief clerks, in drawing the same, bave been charged a the same abominable rates. ‘This paper is not included ia the written contract enter- ed into in Angust, and on examining F. agent who ‘the purchase, we find that paper was at that time ordered by bim, no 6; sent prive eed uy pe 8 wen see understood” that it was to at the lowest cas! The im- pression shows, that it was @ coarse lithograph, worth probably about twenty-five dollars. The engraving itself weems never to have been furnished to the Sta, and $e probably detained by Latimer Bros. & Seymour, to be used in furnishing blanke in the future, or to charge for engraving it again. The other items of that bill wil! be fownd in a copy of the same attached tw the report of your omamittee on the cont fund of Governor Bash'ord, soe presented in the Senate, and contaimog oiner items ofa very doubtful kind. cach, briefly, isthe natare of the dealings of Messrs. But the claim of $906 50 for enrolling paper is without ‘any foundation in justice or law, except to the amount of the rea) value of the same. As we find that value to be '39 60 less than the price fixed to the bill, we propose an amendment to the bill, reducing the amount of the ap- Propriation to 96,563 37, and recommend that the said herewith submitted, be adopted, and that =e eo till to ov ennennea, it do pass. The yards were again filed with good cattle, mary of which were superior to any offered last week. There was ‘an increase in the receipts at Allerton’s Washington Drove Yard of about 350 head, the total number on sale during the week being 3,217 bead (about 3,150 of which were offered to day), besides que a large number which were left over unsold last Wedmesday. The market opened with quite an active demand fer first ciass cattle, many of which were dispesed of during the morning at 9. a 9}¢c., but which could be bought later in the day for half a cent &@ pound less. We quote @ decline on all descriptions of nearly one cent a pound, the demand being very mode- rate throughout the day at the decline. Butchers expressed themselves perfectly willing to purchase good cattle at nine cente ® pound, and brokers were equally willing to dispose & thelr ‘cattle at the same price, but there invariably arose @ dispute in regard to the estimated weight of the offerings, which ended, with few exceptions, nd @ concession on the part of bro- kers, who were in reality anxious to dispose of their cattle at almost any price, but who assumed a look of indiffe- rence which Le A by no means felt. Some of the Ohio Caltle were 1ook!o dmirebly end as usual, met with more ready sale peta hailing from any other State, with the exception of Indiana, which was represented by 245 head, which brought from Siec. to 93g0.; the latter price was obtained in the early part of the aay, ‘and only for the very choicest. They were only fairish, however, and brought no betier prices than many of the ‘other offer! rings. At Browning’s there was done a fair business at a trifle belew the figures of Allerton’s. At O’Brien’s sales were made at low rates. The range was from 7c. & 83sc. At Chamberlin’s the market was fair, and prices were quoted at 7c. a 93¢e. ‘There were sold at Bergen Hill on Monday only about 200 head, the market being cull and prices lower.
