M. guilty, apd was sent to the State prison for ‘There was @ very active and a very buoyant stock market this morning. At the first board the transactions ‘were to @ greater extent than we have noticed for some days. The leading railroad stocks were all in demand, and the advance realized ranged from one quarter to five per cent, Missouri State sixes improved 3 per cent; La Crosse and Milwaukie land grant bonds, 3: Canton Com- pany, 4; Delaware and Hudeon, x; New York Central ‘Railroad, 1%{; Erie, 2%; Hudson River Railroad, 134; Harlem, 134; Reading, 134; Michigan Central Railroad, 134; Michigan Southern, old, 1{; do, preferred, 5; Cleve- land, Columbus and Cincinnati, 3s; Galena and Chicago, 1; Cleveland and Toledo, 3g; Ohicago and Rock Island, 14. The probable success of the opposition ticket at the elec tien of the Michigan Southern Railroad Company has had a favorable effect on the market value of the stock. The present management have so little interest in the stock, ‘80 little experience in railroad management, and 60 little efficiency generally, that the stockholders will be grated in making a complete change. The old management is far preferable, and will, without doubt, receive the mecessary support. The anti Jervis ticket will probably be elected. New York Cevtrel Railroad was particularly active this morning, and closed firm at 68 per cent. Chicago and Rock Island opened and ciosed at steadily advancing prices. At the second board the market was active, but prices ruled at lower poiwts. New York Central fell off 1 per cent, Hud- son River Railroad, 1g; Harlem, \; Reading, %; Michigan Central Railroad, 3; Michigan Southern, old, 3; do. pre- ferred, 2: Galena and Chicago, (; Cleveland and Tole lo, X. Chicago and Rock Island and Erie Railroad were with- outchange Pennsylvania Coal advanced + percent. After the board prices improved again, end at the close the market was much more buoyant. The spirit «f specule- tion ts epreading, and i looks very much as thougha strong upward movement was about being inaugurated. ‘The transactions at the Clearing House to day were as follows -— 12 yr} by The Metropolitan currency certificates ameunt to $282,000. The steamship Vanderbilt, from this port for Havre to- dag , carried out $235,000 in specie. The Arsietant Treasurer reports to-day as follows: — Total payments. Total balance $06,307 69 104,162 64 969/128 90 The receipts to-day includes $44.00 from Custome. ‘The anthracite coal trade is brightening up a little. ‘The Schuyik'li canal has brought down 24,893 tons this week, and the Reading Railroad 21,261—in all, 46,154 tons for the week. The deficiency on the railroad, however, is large, compared with last year. ‘The receipts of the Harlem Railroad Company for the month of Marck were:— + $93,147 $8,559, . tee seve $4,588 ‘The operating expenses wero $18,000 this year, against *6,0CO same moxth last year. It ts proposed to call a meeting of bondholders of the La Croese and Milwaukie Railroad for consultation, Ac., and holders of the bonds will be notified of the place and time of meeting by sending their addresses and the num- ber of bonds held by them to hesere.
