Our Nebraska Gunitianmeniad Fonrsns.Lg, Dopar Counry, N. of March 21, 1868, Increase of the Army by Volunteer Service—The Utah Expedition—Starting of Trams Across the Plains—Emigration to Nebraska this Spring —General News, §c., &. Probably by the time this reaches the HexaLD definite action will have been had by Congress upon the Army bill now before that body. For @he Utah service it is now rather late to organize a volunteer force, equip and prepare them for a march in time for the early spring emigration, for already trains of Mormons are preparing for a start to join their brethren in Utah. The grass is now starting upon our prairies and along the Platte Valley bottoms. It had been generally supposed that the War De- partment would have taken some steps toward stop- ping ‘‘aid and comfort” (in the shape of men and arms) from crossing the plains here to Utah. Hun- dreds of Mormons are even now getting ready for their toilsome journey, and they go, not only un der orders from Brigham Young, but with al! of those strong Mormon prejudices and feelings whi :l has already placed Utah in a state of rebellion They go there to assist with brain and sinew the ™mustered thousands of a Mormon force. already And yet how easily could this migrating force to these rebellious subjects (and they may fp eet have PI m our Western borders. It tk pi Department, or the powers that be, would simply count the cost of and muuitions of war to Utah, that ste; have been taken to, in some manter, overland Mormon mpi. Indeed, Lam safe in the prediction that by the middle of the coming summer from one to two thousand able bodied men wilh beater oe the Mammon taco kr iat, It may that the United States force already It Lake City will stop these Mormons from ihe valley. This idea‘is absurd, for each of emigrants crossing the plains are under the | ges of men well experienced in the route to travelled, and will assuredly dodge the army in entering Sait Lake. As soon as the grasy starts eufficient to sustain stock, the emigrant road will be dotted with trains en roule for Ci ifornia, Utah and Oregon, and in some three or four weeks more they — on tad move. - ‘his spring’s emigration to Nebraska will, it is ae acceded, be quite large, and the eatliest emigrants will of course have the first choice of the vacant lands. From New York, Comnecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, Mlinois and other States, they will’ in a short time come pouring into Nebraska. To such as purpose emigrating with seh families hither, and becoming or con- tinuing farmers after their arrival here, a few words of advice, from experience, will , per- team of horses and me eat ap haps, nof’come amiss. A good a heavy mn (covered) will be much needed upon your arrival here, and indeed it is as good manner as you can travel aoross the States, and in this man- ner sach few things as are actually needed to start in your Western home can, without additional ex- pense, be brought along, such as a bed, blankets, some clothing, &., &c. Upon your arrival at the Missouri river and the Nebraska towns along that stream the best advice I can give you is (unless you have relatives or friends upon whom you ‘de- pend for advice, &c.) to push on inland, (avoiding the land sharks and agents on the for a chance at you,) and select a home for yourself; for, be it remembered, in nine cases out of ten, your advisers will be actuated by motives of self-interest—a claim to sell, an enemy’s claim to jump, town site to settle near or on where they are terested, or a rival town which they desire’ you to avoid, or something of the kind. Therefore, look out well for yourself; or, next vest, ask for the Nw Yor ga 8 correspondent to tell you or show id around. I talk now to the farmer emigrant. @ capitalist will find ample tunities for safe and profitavle investment in ary section, and the only thing they ous fear is in getting os it on of FN , rea e showathin estern speculator and trader is assure “ smartest, shrewdest and more fully awake fora ane than any ¥ haye found in my travels.
