They needed more prayer. They needed to pray notonly there but at bome, in their ciosets and at their firesides. Rev. Jouy Q Apams, fromthe stage, gard that he re- men. dered the time when two young men entered tacir ames for an engagement at Nivlo'e, many yeare ago, in ‘tthe corps de batice One of them, however, became im d wita God's spirit, and left tne engagement, while the other went on and filled it. From that time ter Sourses were different. One of them became ®& minister of the Gospel, and the other coptipued to play, and pecame a last ao fwOdei. The minister stood before them to day aad asked ‘Meir pray: rs for his brother, whom be hoped would be rowgd: to w sense of the truth nsation ) WM Buran, from the audience, prayed earnestly that Ged would biess His work in this city and pour down His grace in all its length, oreadth, depth and richness. ‘Ap aged brother nthe family circle exuorted young men to embrace the opportunity to secure eternal iife whule it was not yet too late. He warned them soiemaly to beware, beware of oreathing away the spirit of God. Ae had himself been oonverted rixteen years since under the iate Spencer H. Cone, a converted actor. He bad heard it said that Chris- eans were crazy, Dut, for himself, he wished he had been ‘orazy fifteen years before. God would help ail that asked ‘mrivtance, and now wae the time fur young men to seek gaivation. An aged brother suggested there should be more prayer. A brother in the parquetie prayed earnestly, thanking God for the opportunity tor this revival, and for the unani- ‘mity with which ali denominations came together on one emmon platiorm for the glory of God He prayed espe cially for thore who had asked for prayer on their own and otbers’ behalf. A young brother ma private bex prayed for the suc. cess of Gods work, and especialiy thai ‘the Presideat who presides over this mighty land might be brought iaw fhe fold of Christ” ‘A middie aged brother In the parquette exborted for venty for toe cry of “ don’t go w the theatre” to be changed to the cry “do go to the theatre of Prayer.’ He had come from New Haven, where the news of this revival in New York had caused great retigions interest, fo that they held four meetings every day, and it was im- Die Ww etop them at the appowted ime, because the Cicthres and rwsore would keep on praying. First mortgage railroad bonds, when issued upon @ proper valuation of property, are considered by our most cautious capitalists one of the beet securities of the day, and thay are mostly in strong hands. Bank stocks aro rapidly and deservedly losing character. The frequeat enor- mous defaications exposed, and the many that are covered up and are kept close by the officials, have weakened public confidence in this class of swcks, and the daly rates at the Brokers’ Board show that many holders are clearing out. State stocks have for some days been quiet California State 7's have been almost entirely withdrawa from the market. The low prices which have ruled for some time past have attracted a class of purchasers, who have absorbed all the amall lots afloat. The most impor- | tant decline to day was in Chicago and Rock Island. It opened at 78 and sold down, under pretty sharp ham- mering from the shorts, to 753 per cent cash. It soon partially recovered, and sold between the boards at 773¢ cash. A few day® ago this stock was in active demand at 88 per cent. This great fall will be very likely to bring in a strong party of new buyers, and @ rapid recovery is not at al) improvable. At the second board the market ‘was slight'y better.
