The sales of Havana leaf ranged between 300. a35c.;Cubal7¢ a 2lc.,and asmall parcel of good Jigu api at 25c. In the absence of desirable Havana fillers webad more demand for Yara, of which several lots changed hands; still prices could not be enhanced, on 2c- count of the almost total absence of wrappers in the as- sortments. The trade in demestic leaf, old crop, has also been Tather quiet since ‘the beginning of the month, and ly had to be reduced to induce purchases. Of new crop seed leaf considerable purchases are report- ed, and prices for the article have advanced in the owing districts. Nothing of note has been as yet of- fered here, and we therefore refrain from giving quota. tions unti) the market is established. Continued sales at and Maysville, old crop, have tended le and curtail the business. new crop Kentucky but little has been sampled; but more is offering of new crop Maysville, which, although of good quality, finds no buyers at the asked, viz, 10c. a 12\¢. for crops round, and 14c. a 150. for selections. A brisk demand was looked for in the month of February which bas not ex 1 at fluctuations have any one time prevailed ana ‘! rket bes been unsteady. This state of things must continue until there is more doing in the Waputactories. Resume of Retail Prices—Market Truck be- coming Scarce—A Chance fer the Farmers with Spare Stuff on Hand—Fish Cheapen- Ing. &e. ‘The dealers !n the large markets state that truck of all kinde ie getting scarce, and unless a supply sufficient to ‘meet the demand comes tn before long, prices will flactu: ste. This is an excellent opportunity for such farmers near the city ae have epare truck on hand, as, from this time out, potatoes, turnips, cabbages, &c., wil! tend up- werd in price. We bear of uumerous complaints fom parties living up town, in regard to the ehort meseures and weights of the grocery and reta!l stores in the upper part of this city. While pretending to sell cheap they really manage to get a very high price for their wares by selling ‘‘short,” aod otket vary se riously by the end of the week. This syetom of cheating | pervades all departments of retail trade, and consumers robbed en every band. [t is well known that coal desiers cheat most outragedusly in weight, it being im porsible for their customers to teil whether (bey get a ton Ag ageneral rule it may be set down as preity sure that al! con! dealers who pretend to aei! far below the market price are really humbuggitg their customers, and their wares are really very dear. So, too, with the up © pretending to eell their goods at an Aiarming sacridce they really charge inordinately high, considering the weight given, do kept house for some years in the lower part ond who was ip the habit of dealing tn vio ontiy moved up town, Where sho was with the retail grocerymen to some charges were moderate, but, strange to tay, the articles were consumed much faster than usnal, acd by the end of the week the bill became qnite large | This led her to jook into the matter, and she soon found that an extensive system of cheating prevailed, and the was almout eure to be cheaied, whatever store was visited. This is a matter which surely ought w be attended to by the c'ty government.
