With what joy did they bail the approach of their deliverors and tho dixporral of theenemy! Let us look around us, continue the leo turer, we will find under the shadow of our palaces, within our own city, thousands who are struggling against as remorseless, as ruthiew a foo ue that which threatened the beleagured inhabitants of Lucknow, and whose fate, if nut relieved, is horrible forthe Christian to contemplate. Think of the want, the suifering, the des- titution which exists in our midst; of the youth who are Drought up in this city dependent upon the charity of the wealthy; of the women whom toil and drudgery ‘and neglect have driven to desperation, and who in the bitterness of their poverty and despair have been forced from the paths of virtue—of the men on whom the with- ering band of destitution has fallen with a crushing weight, and who have become social outcasts through the col t- ess and indifference which thinks not of their suiferings, or which sees them with an uacharitable eye. Think of the host of enemies against which they have to fight, of the terrible array that is drawn up againet them, and let those who have the means save them.
