Avil War in the Territory—Deaperate Fights Between the Free State and Pro-Siavery Parties—General Lane Defics the Dragoons— Quarrels Among the Free State Leaders on the Question of Voting for State &e. Sr. Lovis, Dec. 80, 1857. Kansas advices of the 24th instant, just received by the Democrat, say that civil war is raging in Bourbon county. Several conflicts have taken place between free State and proslavery parties, and a number of priconers been taken on both sides, The United Statés Marshal, with a force of eighty men, demanded the surrender of a free State party, and the demand was answered by a volley of musket bails. The fire was returned, and the fight lasted an hour, when the pro-slavery meu retreated with Joss of one man killed and two mortally wounded, The ‘United States Marshal was dangerously wounded. General Lane was entrenched at Sugar Mound, and de- termined to fight the dragoons if they attacked him. A Dattlo was regarded as inevitable. An exciting debate occurred in the Lawrence Con- ‘vention. Tue Committce on Resolutions presented three reports. The majority report dfsapproves of voting for State officers. The first minority report re- commends the nomination of a full Stato ticket, ‘aad the second, signed by Mr. Redpath, recommends & participation in the election for the purpose of destroy- ing the Lecompton constitution; that no man be nominated who will not pledge himself to crash that instrument; that the Topeka constitution be submitted to the people, and loyalty to that instrument be made the test of fealty to the free State party; also, that the Legislature should ropeal the present code of laws. Messrs. Robinson, Phil- lips, Conway, Schuyler and Vaughan spoke in favor of voting.. The most radical revolutionary speeches were made. ° ‘The claction returns come in slowly, Johnson county gives 2,000 majority for slavery. Thirteen hundred votes were cast at Oxford. The Middlesex Mills and the Defalcation of Lawrence, Stone & Co, WHAT THE NEW ENGLAND MANUFACTURERS PAY FOR PASSING A TARIYF BILL LN CONGRESS. Boaros, Dec, 30, 1867. The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Middlesex Mills was held to-day. The Investigating Committee made a lengthy report, which was unanimously adopted. The committee recommended the company to ask @ reasonable xeon from its creditors, a re-organization of its ma- ent, and the resumption of manufacturing as fast s it can be done proflably, confidently believing the bu- Sinees with economical matagement can be profitably carried on. The report states that Lawrence, Stone & Co. paid $87,000 to secure the passage of the tariff bill of ert of which amount $8,000 was disbursed by New York house for’ printing, editorial ae &e., but no satisfactory explavation has yet been afforded of the application of the balance. In reviewing the financial history of the company, it is evident that a breach of trust has been comunitted by the treaeurer and financial agents in diverting the funds and credit of the company to their own interests, yut the committee say that no motives of intention to injure the company are discernable. ‘The committee furthe@Mtate that they sce n> reason to believe that the members of the firmin New York are aware of the indebtedness of Lawrence, Stone & Co. to the company. ‘The property of the company is reported 40 be in ex- cellent condition. The yachts are now at their moorings, being laid up for the winter in different places—some at Now Rochelie, some up the Hudson, but the greater part at New London. There are about ten fine yachts at the latter place, moor ed ia a sung little cove, where they are secure from all danger, the water being as quiet as a mill pond. They seem as neat as if they were waiting for their owners to come on board and take a sail, The Widgeon, owned by Mr. Edgar, jooks if she bad just come out of the painter's hands. We understand that the boat keeper in charge of this yacht has the care also of three others, viz.: the Gertrude, the Gipsy and the Irene. Among others we saw the Silvie, the Una and the Rebecca; the two former built by George Steers. The Silvie has crossed the Atlantic, rigged as a sloop, and the Una never missed a prize. We learn that the latter is to have a new deck next year and her cabin refitted. The Mystery and Starlight are moored in the middle of the cove. They all seem to be in good condition We are glad to find that so far the panic has had no bad effect on yachting. As a proof of this we hear that Mr Thomas, the owner of the Mioniec, intends building a schooner yacht next year, of a hundred tons. No doubt there will be a considerable addition tothe squadron nextseason, as thie healthy and gentlemanly pursuit is growing daily in favor with the fashionable world. THE YACKT WANDERER. [From the Charleston Mercury, Dec. 28.] On Saturday afternoon a sharp looking schooner came to an anchor offour East Bay Battery, which, on boarding, ‘we found to be the yacht Wanderer, Capt. Thomas B. Hawkins, from New York, bound to the Guif ports and the West Indies on a pleasure expedition. She was launched at Brookhaven, Long Island, in Jane Inst, and during the summer went on a voyage to Boston, Portland and other Eastera cities, whore her fine proportiona and elegant accommodations were general@y noticed, Her cabin will be admired for its roomy and beautiful finish, and her general outfit for its complete and, in many fe. spects; luxurious ehatacter. John D. Johnson, Faq. ‘ew York, the owner of the Wanderer, will joln her Pi this port—he being now on his way from New York by land. As she will remain here about two Weeks, our citi zens will have ample coportanity to inspect her, and they will receive every attention while on board from her courteous commander, Capt. Hawkins. We subjoia oes vulars ip regard to her size, &e.:—Length on of 14 feet: beam, 2645 feet; draaght of water at present, 10 feet; tons, 243; length of masts, 83 and 84 feet.
