Several new failures were reported, bat none of much magnitude or importance. The Cunard steamer from Liverpool to Boston, the fol" lowing week, would, it was expected, take a large shipment of gold. We may expect, for a time, remit tances of gold by every steaamer trom Hurope’ Engagements had been made for freight for £400,000-—part of which came in the Persia. The cotton market was dull and declinimg. Spinners have considerably restricted their purchases, and, of course, reduced their stocks. In breadstuffs no change is reported. A first class drawer parchased about half @ million of dollars of bills, which stiffened prices. This house is now ask- ‘ing 106 per cent. The steamship Asia, from this port for Liverpool to-day, carried out $100,000 in old. The shipment was doubtless made to protect bills previously drawn. Small amounts of gold may wo over by every steamer for a similar purpose, Par- fties who have drawn bills on their correspondents in ‘London are apprehensive tnat some difficulty may woour there in the absence of means, and have there fore deemed it prudent to provide against all contin- wencies.
