een cen ee ‘Theatrical wd Mucical Affairs. Though in;the midst of summer, the enterprise and competition among those manegets whose establish: ments remain open, farnich the public with operas, plays, ballets, barlesques, &2., in the a*most profa. sion and unsurpassed excellence. The Italian opera ‘was never more libera:ly patronized or relished than last week, and on Friday, when “Il Trovatore” was performed, it became necessary to close the berks, every seat and standing place in the capacious edi- fice (the Academy) being taken. Niblo’s was ais» ‘well filled, both on Signorita Rolla's and the Ravels’ ed,a kind of rivalry wopears to exist among the friends of the respective artista as t- which of tne parties shall ave the best nouses. Al! who could edge thelr way into Wallack’s ghowered their ponquets, accompacied by the most enthusiastic plaudits, upon the distin- guished actress, Miss Eliza Logan, who took her benefit on Saturday, and contemplates spending the remeinder of the summer in retirexient. The new Olympic, which is nightly crowdei to overflowiag, seems to have fairiy filled the vacuum caused by the closing of ita once unrivalled namesake. It is precisely what has been 80 much wanted from that time to the present, and it will be the fault of the new managers, and not that of the fun loving public, if they do not reap « bountiful harvest from the fer- tile field they have so auspicionsly planted. Daring Mr. Burton's starring tour ia the West his compauy ave charming those who are fond of beautifu: goenery, wonderful meclisnical effects, swee’ mosio and good acting, with the famous fairy apectacte of the “Naiad Queen.” Miss Keene is recuperating her energies for the fall campaign, which she intends to do all in her power to © sender anprecedentedly brilliant, bat it is understood that her elegant theatre will soon re-open witha superior company, fora short summer season. A reoprt is likewise current that the popular actor, Mr. Eddy, has secured and is preparing to re-open the Bowery theatre. We subjoin an outline of the en” tertainments offered to night. Travian Orgpa.—Mme. La Grange, Miss Phil- lips, and Signors Brignoli, Amodio and Coletti are to perform at the Academy in the tragic opera of “ Lucrezia Borgia.” This announcement will doubt- lees bring together another immense mass of the ‘beanty and fashion of this and other cities. Nisto's Garpen—The fascinating danseuse, Signorita Rolls, is to personate Paquita in the bril- Hiant ballet of that name. This piece is repeated at the express solicitation of the patrons of the es- tablisbment. Previous to the ballet Mr. and Mrs. Blake, Miasee Gannon and [aylor, and Messrs. G- Jordan, T. Placide and others, are to play “ Sketches in India.” Burton's Tagatae.—The great fairy romance called the ‘‘Naiad Queen,” with all its magnificent scenic and mechanical effects, dazzling costunes and spirit-stirring marches, is still the great feature of attraction here, Mrs. L. W. Davenport ani Messrs. Fisher and Setcheil enact the chief parts, and are ably seconded by quite a multitude in the minor characters. * Waxiack’s—Thousands will gladly hail the re- turn to this house of the celebrated Mra. John Wood, who is conceded to be one of the best (if not the ‘very best) artists in her particular line that ever graced the Americanstege. She commences in her original character of Minne-ha-ha, in Mr. Wolcott's highly popular extravaganza of “Hi-a-wa-tha.” The suthor himself, a favorite of long standing, is to personate the hero; and the other characters have ‘een allotted to Miss Josephine Manners, Messrs. A. HK. Davenport, Phillips, &c. Ouymric.— 4 new local burlesque, written by Mr. Gayler, warranted entirely origmal, and entitled “Qlympiana, or a Night with Mitchell,” promises to afford s great deal of merriment here for some time to come. It purports to abound with all sorts of novelties and oddities, being founded on anything and everything, from a pile of corporation mud to a shower of California gold, acd by way of giving spice to the unique compound Mrs. C. Howard, Messrs. Chanfrau, T. B. Johnston, Harry Hall and other ta vorites. are to play prominent parts. It is to be pre- ceded by “A Loan of a Lover.” AmgsicaN Musevum.—Visiters will this afernoon and evening have an opportanity of witnessing, among innumerable othe: things, the elegant “Dis- solving Views of Palestine and the Holy Land,” and st the same time enjoy the amusing songs, dances &c., of White's serenaders. Gxo. Caumty anp Woon's Mixetnare tender the “Bloomer Promenade,” “Rochester Knockiogs,” and various other whimsical burlesqnes and songs, besides George's great dance of the “Black Grena- ier and Washer Woman,” and the laughable and anprecedentedly successful farce styled “The Magi cian.” Bayant’s Mrvsreexs atill keep the maltitades ‘who visit them at Mechanics’ Hall in the very best of bamor. Among the numerous good things con- tained in to-night’s peogramme we notice Dan's excruciating “Essence of Ole Virginny;” the “Darkey in the Well,” and the whimsical acene called “Down in Alabama.” A CommunpaBLe Ossect—-We take pleasure in snnouncing that the mi mbers of the theatrical and musical profession contemplate giving an entertain ment at an early day for the benefit of their formes associate, Mr. Wm. Roberts, the favorite years ones been in the Tenati say hg um. seethe fine he tet thre had alliction, he hed a wife five children, entirely dependent upon him for = rt. ‘They are n0W M, Gatinate clroametonces, is, are requested to send ir names to- & Son's music store, on or before Wi yy the 15th inst. THE MONAGAS DYNAYLY—THE GUANO I18LANDS— MARKETS, ETC. Puxaro Canui1o, June 27, 1857. ‘The misunderstanding about the Guano Islands between the Uaited States and this government is all moonshine. ‘The real cause of difference, if any, is about the claim of a Bostonian to an island on which there is guano, and an English captain sets forth a similar claim, both of which are pull and void. The presence of General Pacz, ex-President, has given no cause for alarm to the pewers that be. For the purpose of showing the actual earningt, for the information of ftockhoiders we here present « statement made up on tho best dats. Balance applicable to dividends for the year.. $45,592 Here we have a balance of only $45,982 to pay a divi- dend on $5; '2 of stock—equal to one and a half per | cent. This is in fact just about what tbe road earns on the stock, and all paid over, that must go into construction ac- count or floating debt. "In the above expenditures wo bave pot down nothing for depreciation or for contingen- cles. Neither have we credited interes! account for inte. reset on assets, for we know them to be unproductive ant valueless. The eight per cent dividend which thie company baa paid on the stock amounts annually to $267,496. In estimating the operating expenses of the road at only Afty per cent, there would have beon last year « deficiency of | more than $100,000 In the dividend fund. At fifty per | cont ranning expenses the road carned lust yoar but five | per cent on the stock. All the above items of expense are substantially admitied by the company, except one— 460 1857.81, the operating expenditures, This we are perfectly willing 5 to leave to the judgment of all who know anything of the | the Cleveland and Toledo Company to claim that with their — 200 miles of route to support, with two didorent and dis — tinct lines of road, they can bring their running expenses below those of the Hudson River, the Harlem, the Michi- | gan Southern or Michigan Central, If tho truth could be , Wall street is beyond all precedent. Speculating brokers | railroads, and commiss\on houses are running over with railroad se- carities, which are almost daily depreciating in thoir | the operating hands. Outsiders are steadily realizing, and ultimately the the bulk of the capital stock of all the most prominent © rallroads in the country will be bandied about Wall st-eot. ‘The idea of holding railroad stocks aa investments has Jong since beon abandoned by all prudent men. The money market continues easy, and abundantly supplied ‘with capital, The Sub-Treasury is steadily accumulating, bot the heavy payments on the part of the government ‘Will now partially ceaso, when the deposita will rapidly Fon up, and the effect of the drain besome visible. The European advices are not at all encouraging. The pros- pects of a good harvest throughout Great Britain and the Continent are particularly good, and the probability is that wo shail find no markets abroad this year or next for our surplus. This, in the face of a good harvest at homo, cannot but reduce prices to comparatively low points, and interfere materially with the movements of produce thronghout the interior, Our’ ratiroad companies are not likely to derive so much benefit from the transportation of the crope aa anticipated. Tho demand for breadatuits west of the Miesiasipp! is likely to be, during the present year, nearly as great aa that of the Fast. If our crops turms ont good, prices are likely to rule so low aa to make the transportation by railroad only a matter of necessity, We do mot see anything ia the future, in relation to money EE z FH 3 e 33 $2800 Indiana 6’... 9000 Virginia 7000, do LJ do .. ..b60 nae lest | 300 A0...6 6 do phe do, 880 p&o | Bcc IM It ts idle for the managers of | 1 (8600 TxErickWambs 20% IT 6 MoO Rie RRc Lin 10% 200 6000 Gal Chi 2dmbs 80 Webs Am Kx Bk... 168 6 York Bank. 102 3K 60 Merchants’ Bank, 112 10 Mept'DBank sorip 10654 26 Dei & Bud Cau Co 116% 10 Porn Coal Co,,., 98 8 I dO...
