Two or three weeks agotwo in- offensive gentlemen were severely beaten by a gang of blackguards on board the Hunchback; and last Sunday a cah-driver was etabbed to deaih on board the Josephine. There is every reason to expect similar scenes throughout the reason. Under the circumstances, we submit that the police authorities ana the agent of the line had better con- sult together and provide for a supply of officers on board the boats during the late trips. It might be well, too, if the line is of any value, to rune special boat ‘on week- days for the uxe of prostitutes. People living in the city would enjoy an afternoon sail with their wives oa board these boats, were it not that at the best hours—four, five, and six o’clock—there are invariably tbree or four nymphs ef the pave on board, rendering the place too hot for any modest members of their sex. ANTE-MORTEM BXAMINATION OF THE WOUNDED CAB DRIVER. Coroner Perry visited the New York Hospital yesterday for the purpose of holding an ante-mortem examination in the case of Charles Quinn, the hack driver who was °o se- verely stabbed on Sunday evening, while engaged in an affray on board the Staten Island ferry boat Josephine, but the injured man was suffering such acute pain that it was found impossible to proceed with the examination. Seve- ral of the injured man’s friends visited him at the hospi- tal yesterday, and there stated to the Coroner that Quinn had been stabbed by a man pamed Mose, or Mosley, and that there was an oe Councilman of the First ward stand. ing by when the affray took place, who could have pre- vented the disturbance if be chore, The police are cnn ae ‘voring to effect the arrest of the accused Rey, but it is supposed he has fled from the city. The wound in- tlieted upon the person of Quinn is a Very severe one, The knife penetrated the abdomen on the right side, and laid bare the intestines for several inches. It is the opinion of the house rurgeon ef the hospital that Quinn cannot reco- ver. No satisfactory account of the origin of the row can be rendered, but it is supposed that it all grew ont of a quarrel between & young man named Donnelly and a German, whose name is unknown, All parties were more or less intoxicated at toe time.
