About 3 o’clock yesterday morning a fearful occurrence took place at the corner of Broadway and Ninth street. A man named Barr, residing at the above place, persuaded ®ocourtesan named Margaret Cunningham to accompany him home, Gn their arrival at Barr’s rooms a dispute Oocurred between them relative to money matters, when the man drew a pistol and threatened to shoot the woman. Margaret, being afraid of the threat, ran to the second story window and jumped into the street, severely in- juring herself. Officer Listel, of the Fifteenth ward po- lice, discovered the situation of the girl and conveyed her to the station house, He thon returned and arrested Barr. On their way to the station house the prisoner drow the piste: and abet bimself in the bead, inilicting a serious if not fatal injury. The wounded partios wero attended by Dr, Jones, of the police staif, ond were much relieved. ‘The following acoount of the affair has been made to the Chief of Police by Capt Dilks, of the Fifteenth ward police :=— A prostitute named Margaret Cunningham, walle pass ing down Broadway, at 2} o’olock A. M.,and when near the coruer of Ninth street, was accosted by a man named Barr, who persuaded her to accompany bim to his room om the second floor of house No. 767 Broadway, corner 0 Ninth street. After being there some time she threat ened to make a noise upless he paid her some money, when be drew a pistol and threstened to shoq her.
