The stock market opened and closed heavy to day. About the usual eotivity prevailed; but the buoyancy noticed throughout yesterday was not at all visible this morning. Oash stock of all the leadiugratlroad companies appears to be more and more abundant every day. The most {mportant movement today was in lilinois Central Railroad stock. It opened mt 133%, seller 60 days, and closed at 1324; per cent, buyer 8 days, and sold down to 181%, selier 60 days. Tae sales ‘were upusuaily large, and contracts om time are put ou) freely. We do not approve of this movement on the part of the company, but believe that under the ciroumstanoes there was no alternative. The extent of the increase ta capital is probably the beet poticy. it was doubtless made to save ‘uture trouble in isauing smelter lots of stook. The real object of the company has not yot ap- peared, but to our mind !t is perfectly clear, and only as 8 Coancia! measure oan commend it.
