This afternoon Erie ceclined *, per cont; Michigan Southern, '. The regular bu') party is filled up with all sorts of railroad stocks, They pave just as much as they cao weil stagger under, and every thirty days adds two and three per cent to their cost. It therefore follows that prices must advance largely before they can get out witha whole skin, Wheo they are to find buyers at higher prices, or even at rates now ruling, is a question which troubles them mightily. This same bull party, at the head of which stand Wesley & Co, proprietors of the Times, some months since went into Erie Raliroad stocks to the extent of about 20,000 shares, purchased, as their paper said, all for investnent, Thetr purchases com- menced at about 6) 3, per cent, and run up to 63 0 6334 per cent. After they had invetied to the extent desired it was found that the market was mot much aflected one way or tbe other. After a time prices be- gan to droop, and in the face of every effort made to the contrary, they run down to 56866) percont. At length @ reaction took place, and the market gradua’ improved, until 60 per cert was reached, At that point the bull party realized, pocketing @ loss om the whole transsction of about one hundred thousand dollars, Their investment !o Erie proved more permanent than fire an- Ucipated. They were glad to gst out of it, at even the sacrifice made. bulk of the 20,000 shares was sold to Little & Co., and bat for the large purchase of that house the bulls would havo lost a good dea! more money. We look for similar reault to Present operations; butthey have now no Jacob Little to relieve them of such loads of stocks, and the probability is that when the burden gots to be too great to carry, they will have to submit to unusual sacrifices. ‘The bull speculators of Wall street do not make much headway in their stock operations. The New York Con- tral Railroad and the Albany clique of speculators gene- rally bave as much as they can stand up under, with their load of railroad stocks. The principal wirepullers of the Stock Exchange, just now, are Wesley & Oo., pro- prietors of the Times, and they heve iafiuenced many ‘whom they operate for not to accept Little’s offer for a settlement of his differences. The object of Wesley & Co, is to keep Mr. Little away from Dis seat at the board, so that he will not have the power of frustrating any of the plans of the cliques of bull speculators. Tae house of Wesley & Co. sre using their outside customers to fur- ther their own private ends in the stock market. They represent through their organ, the 7imes, that after the ‘Ist of January prices are sure to advance, and that it is only necessary to hold on to realize immense profits. ‘They algo represent that it fs all important that Mr. Little should be kept out of the board; that as long as he is kept oot the market can be sustained, and that all rail- road stocks will command prices something like their in- trinale value, Mr. Little has mado a fair proposition, and is desirous of paying all in full, but can pay only twenty five per cent in money. All of his creditors are williag to accept his offer except the Albany epecolators and their representatives in the street. So long as they cau keep ‘the great bear out of the ring they cam manage the sma'! Class of bull operators snore easily, and keep them more steadily in the traces. Al! sorts of misrepresentations are publicly and privately mace to indace outatde holders of stocks to hold ow and not realize, It would be the ruin of Wesley & Co, and the reckless class of speculators they operate with, to bave the smaller class of speccia- tors restize, aud it ts therefore of the most vital im Portance that the timid and the ignorant bulls should be bitn¢ ed to the true state of the market. It is the duty of the Times to keep up the confidence of those not con- nected with the Wesley clique, The fact that Wesley « Co. are proprietors of the Times, aod have complete con- trol of its column, bas given them at Aibany and through the western part of this State a power and tmportance iu the stock market which they otherwise never would have enjoyed. Speculators at Albany, Utica and Ballalo know that the aid of a papor devoted entirely to the bull interest is an auxilliary in Wall street far greater than any other broker possesses, and they also kaow tha! the only way to got the beneiit of that organ is to join the Weetoy & Co. clique of operators. In this way the list bas enlarged, unt! {| has abeorbed the princips! specuia tive spirits of the State. The firm of Wesley & Co. origi- pated in Albany as smal! pote brokers, and its Qnanciering hat, from the start, been of the sshool peculiar to that city.
