THE SOUTHERN CONVENTION. Whe Meeting of the Convention—List of De- legates, de. ‘To-day the great Sou\herp Commercia! Convention will ‘agnin convene in the olty of Savannah, Georgia. Herete- Tore the sessions of this self constituted body have been Dothing more than safety valves whereby « large amount of gam has been jet off by Southern demagogues. They have afforded an excellent stage for the delivery of Bun- combe speeches and large talk aout Southern rights and Northern aggression; but as to anything practical—any subject having ia view a beneficial rosult—has hardly been mentioned. Banquets and balis have generally closed up the previous meetings of the Convention, and delegates have invariably retired to tueir homes perfoct- ly aatiafled that they had had « tolerably good time. Consideralle noise has been made throughout the South in geting up the eeasion which commences to-day, end not less than tour thousand (elegates have been ap- pointed frou States, Congressional districts, counties, cities, villages and towns, and in some localities by bar- room cliques. All the chivalry of ihe South will be in ‘Attendance, as will be seen by the following tables, ex- Biditing tac oumber of titled individuals who have been The city of Nashville, Tenneseee, refused to appoint delegates on the ground that the authorities failed to see any practica! good which was likely to arise out of a continuarce of the sessions.
