At the second board the market showed conside table weakness, and the transactions were to some extent, at lower prices. The decline in some stock» was considerable. New York Central Railroad fei: oft 1j per cent.; Erie, 3; Reading, 4; Michigan Cev tral, 4; Michigan Southern, }; Cleveland and To ledo, }. La Crosee and Milwaukie sold at $0 por cent cash, being an advance of 5 per cent on the lasteale. After the board 82 por cent cash was pil, and no sales, After the board other stocks were lower, and the market closed feverish. A little bed news now from any quarter would knock stocks down as fast as they have advanced; and, as it is the probability is that purchasers will realize a profit where they can. The market has risen too tast to be permanent, and we muat look for a reaction. Mr. C. insists on a non-allowance on dnmpage, which the late President always allowed, and an indignation meeting of coal operators is oall- ed for tomorrow. The effect of this difficulty will be immediately felt in the receipts of the road, and may lead to a strong compination to employ other outlets for coal shipments, 1856, '"" The eatimate for the whole of this year, 1856, was $400,000, and here we have an excess of $25,000 on ten months’ business It is now estimated tha: te remaining two months will give about $150,000, which added to the above, will make an aggregate of $575,000 for the year. We should not be surprised to see it go over six handred thousand dollars. The gross earnings since July 1, period of only four months, have- been $244,503 71. For the lasts x montha of the present calendar year the earnins: will not vary much from four handred thousaad dollars. Twenty-six miles of the Northern Central Railway is now ready for delivery to the company by the contractors. It extends from Bridgeport, opposite Harrisburg, to Millersburg. A locomotive and cara have passed successfully over the track between the points named. This at once makes a clear opening from the Lykens Valley anthracite coal region to Baltimore, and they may soon expect supplies thence of coal. The work, we learn, is progressing rapidly towards Trevorton, and will apeedily be opened to that region. The Pennsylvania Railroad Company have de. clared a semi-annual dividend of four per cent. Mr. John Tucker has resigned the presidency of the Reading Railroad Company, and Mr. R. D. Cul: len has been elected to {ill the vacancy. Mr. Cullen bas been Vice President for some time, and is inti- mately acquainted with the road and its affairs. We understand that Mr. Tucker has accepted the presi- dency of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Company. In relation to the coal trade, present and prospec- tive, the Philadelphia Ledger says:— Those who express fear that the additional outlets for Pepnayivania’n great st ple, anthracite coal, 1s likely to ‘pjare the coal carrying business by so dividing it as to make tt unprocuctive generally, may take courage !a the fact that to our exbaurtiess mines of antbracite New York and New Eogland must maialy look for their supply of coal—the apoual amount of whch they now require en Utles that article and the trade which it supporia to the Particular attention of the public, for ouch aud all of them are directly or incirectly connected with it. They deserve sympathy, and will receive the encouragement of every man who consults bis own interest and the public good. The report of Professor James Hall, New York State Geologist, on the property snd resources of the Ward Coal and Iron Company, has just been completed and presented to the stockholders, The company’s estate embraces 2,912 acres of land at Barrallville, Maryland, is situated upon both sides of Jennings’ Run, upon the north fork of that stream, and upon the easterly margin of the Camberland coal fleld. Itis nearer to the city of Cumberland and to the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, as well as ‘to the Chesapeake and Ohio canal, than any of the tracte within that basin from which coal has been worked to any extent. The estate, in its relative po- sition to railroads, has superior advantages. The company are pow at woak upon its valuable deposits of fire clay, and will soon have several machines in operation for the manufactare of fire brick. It is the intention of the managers to thoronghly deve- lope this resource before taking hold of their im- mense coal veins, iron ore and limestone beds. This is a wise policy—one so different from that generally followed, that it must attract public attention.
